[Resolved] My computer is not working.
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:23:14 AM »
Hi. I talked to hoov and he thinks I have a viroid on my computer. It is really slow, and once the mail site comes on I can't do anything with it. Facebook does the same thing. How do I get rid of it? I'm on my iPad. Can't even use it.

Hello, it is Hoov here.  :a

I need you to reboot windows cleanly. To do that please click on the start button and then go to the word run and click on it. Then type in msconfig in the box that opens.

If there is no run command in the start menu, right click on the start button and select properties. Click the properties menu selection. Now in the window that opens click on the customize button. If you scroll down to the bottom you will see Run Command with a box next to it (see the image below). Check that box and then click the OK button. Then click the OK button. Now click on the start button again and the run command should be visible, just type msconfig in there again and hit enter.

Once that starts, select selective startup, and then uncheck the load startup items. Now click on the services tab, and down near the bottom of the window, check the box that says Hide all Microsoft Services now go up and uncheck all the services still listed, make sure you scroll down the list if need to unselect all the non Microsoft services. Now click apply, then click OK and reboot the computer.

Test it out and see if you can open a browser. Don't surf the internet with it because your protection is turned off, just see if it opens normally. If it does run better, follow the instructions below and run DDS. If it does not open normally, don't run DDS and just let me know it does not open normally.

Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
