Hello Eureka888,

Quote
I am confused as you say: "It is important to back up your system now that you have a computer with no malware present."

Please ignore that line it was included by accident  :o2

Hi Platypuss,

Here is the HD Tune report:

Re-allocated sectors count data = 0 and the overall status = OK
Error scan = 0.0% Damaged Blocks

I attempted to do the advanced report but was unable to load the burnt ISO image.

Thanks

   Hello Eureka888,
That is somewhat inconclusive. It would now be preferable to carry out a check by your harddisk manufacturer,
which range from SMART status to deep scans.

To discover Harddisk manufacturer on Win XP:-

Go to Control Panel and switch to classic view [if you see only a total of 10 icons].
Find "System" and double click that.
Go to the "Hardware" tab and there select "Device Manager".
In device manager, drop down "Disk Drives" and make a note of all that are listed there.
Please post details here

 Hello Eureka888,

Thank you for the details on your Seagate Harddisk.
We need to run A full Seagate test on your Drive "D" to finally establish if it is fully serviceable.
Before this is started please backup your hardrive to your external drive, as you have done previously.

Please go HERE & download the tool & follow the instructions

I strongly advise that you print out the details & read through them carefully before using the tool.
WARNING Do not carry out any tests that are destructive to data

N.B.It will be a "Fix All" test.

Lety me know if you have any problems please.

Hi Platypuss,

I bought a new external hard drive to backup as I thought the old one wasn't working properly as when I connected, it was asking me to format. I manged to connect the new hard drive and do a back up ( see picture) however there must be something wrong with the ports or something as errors pop up when I connect devices to the usb port.

Report coming

Thanks

Hi Pltaypuss,

The Seagate hard drive works and the old WD one doesn't. When I plug in the WD, device manager says there is no problems with the drive but it doesn't show in my computer.
The Seagate shows in both and no errors come up in device manager. I think the WD drive's connection to the hard drive itself is a bit loose as I have to angle the cable to get it to register.

PC was successfully backed up to the Seagate Drive.

Kind regards,

    Hello Eureka888,

You are getting no USB warning with the Seagate connected & it permits backup.
Your computer does not recognise the WD external drive but the physical connection is suspect.

Are you still getting USB warnings when other devices are connected. If so, what are they please?
Can you tell me how your computer is behaving/running without an external harddrive connected ?

platypuss.

Hi Platypuss,

I just plugged in different USB sticks and they seemed to work fine, so I don't think it's a faulty USB port. I think the WD drive is faulty as it wasn't connecting properly - I had to jiggle it to get it to register, even on other computers.

The PC runs fine with or without a external hard drive connected.

Thanks
