Depends entirely on why you cannot get to Google. What happens when you type www.google.com into the address bar? What browser are you using? Try putting 74.125.227.230 into the address bar and tell me where it takes you.

I get 'this page can't be displayed'. I'm using my work laptop to access google successfully. Typing in 74.125.227.230 on my personal laptop also gives me 'this page can't be displayed'

Open a command prompt (all programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and type in
Ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt and then hit enter. Then type in ipconfig.txt to open notepad with the log. Copy it and paste it in to your next response.

Then I would like you to update your hosts file, actually it will probably replace it. Go to this page, and follow the instructions. You can stop once you reach the message MVPS HOSTS FILE IS NOW UPDATED, but you might want to at least read the rest of the page.

Now try going to google again. Also please let me know what browser you are using, and can you tell me are you using a proxy server intentionally?

Sorry, but where do I open a command prompt.  I'll then follow your instructions.

I have tried to use Yahoo as my browser on my personal laptop while I am unable to access Google.

I entered 'all programs > Accessories > Command Prompt' at the run open prompt.  This didn't work.  Am I using the correct command prompt?

Further to my last pots, the first step in the process seems to require me to follow the instructions in the link to the Microsoft article.  Step one of the process in that article says to open Windows Defender.  In my version of Windows (Windows 7 Home Premium).  The screenshot in that process does not look like what I see on my computers Windows Defender.

We have a problem, from the log above it appears that you do not have an internet connection. How are you connected to the internet? Wireless, Wired, Bluetooth?

Also Google and Yahoo are not browsers, your Browser is probably Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, PaleMoon, Safari, Opera or something like that. Please tell me the program you browse the internet on.

For the hosts file, if you are using Windows 8 or Windows 10 follow the instructions below. If you are not using Windows 8 or 10, please tell me what version of Windows you are using and do not try following the instructions below.

Download this file, and save it to your desktop. Double click on it and it will open in Windows Explorer. Copy all the files inside to the desktop. Now right click on mvps.bat and select "run as administrator".

My windows version is 7 Home Premium

Please go to http://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ and tell me what browser it says you are using. Yahoo7 is what they call a browser portal. Everyone else calls it a homepage. It is not a publicly available browser, but they may have a private beta going.

The run as Administrator should be the fourth option after you right click on mvps.bat (unless your mouse is set up for a left handed person, in which case it would be a left mouse click).

Please open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and right click on the file named hosts and select send to and then select zipped folder. Save it to the desktop. Attach it to your next reply.

Are you having any other problems with this computer?
