Hi seedy21,

Zoek finished running.  After that, I ran MBAM.  There were 13 potential threats, which were quarantined and then deleted.  My computer rebooted, but after I accessed the Applications Log in MBAM, I got another blue screen.  I had to perform a forced shutdown again.

My computer is running much slower now.  I'm not sure if things are getting worse on their own, or if I'm contributing to it.  I've attached the logs as requested.

Hi Novice77014,

I have looked at your MBAM logs and I cant see the threats you quarantined. Can you have another look and see if you can find the log with the threats in?

Your Machine will be running slower now that you have an Anti-virus software installed.

Scan with ESET Online Scanner

This step can only be done using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.
Please visit ESET Online Scanner website.
Click there Run ESET Online Scanner.
Please include this logfile in your next reply.
Don't forget to re-enable previously switched-off protection software!
If using Internet Explorer:
  • Accept the Terms of Use and click Start.
  • Allow the running of add-on.
If using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome:
  • Download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe that you'll be given link to.
  • Double click esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe.
  • Allow the Terms of Use and click Start.
To perform the scan:
  • Make sure that Remove found threats is unchecked.
  • Scan archives is checked.
  • In Advanced Settings: Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications and Enable Anti-Stealth technology are checked.
  • Click Start
  • The program will begin to download it's virus database. The speed may vary depending on your Internet connection.
  • When completed, the program will begin to scan. This may take several hours. Please, be patient.
  • Do not do anything on your machine as it may interrupt the scan.
  • When the scan is done, click Finish.
  • A logfile will be created at C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Online Scanner. Open it using Notepad.

Hi seedy21,

I've attached the ESET log.

Just curious...if I purchase an AV program instead of opting to install a free version, would my computer speed increase?

Hi Novice77014,

That's looking better.

Can you tell me if you are still having issues with speed?

If regards to Paid for anti-virus, Im afriad you would have the same results. It is the real-time scanner that does make the machine run slower. You could try http://www.pandasecurity.com/uk/homeusers/solutions/free-antivirus instead of Avast as it is meant to be a lighter program.

seedy21,

I'm still having issues with the speed.  Not sure if it has something to do with any of the eight potentially harmful applications that were found when I ran ESET.

Hi Novice77014,

Sorry for the delay I have been ill for the last couple of days and only know feel well enough to get to a computer.

I don't believe the PUP will be causing the issue, but we will use another tool to double check

Fix with AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save the file to your desktop.

  • Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Follow the prompts and click Scan
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Upon completion, click Report. A log (AdwCleaner[S*].txt) will open.
Please include the contents of that file in your reply.

seedy21,

No worries!  I'm really sorry to hear that you're under the weather.  I hope the worst is over, and that you'll be feeling well soon.  Thanks for helping me...I know you probably want to rest (and should be resting).

Well, the first time I began running AdwCleaner, I got another blue screen.  I had to complete a forced shutdown on my computer.  When I  rebooted, I was able to complete the scan.  The contents of the file are posted below:

seedy21,

I'm getting really nervous...not sure what's going on with my computer.  After I posted the log, I got yet another blue screen (the 4th one since January 18).  Could this be an indicator of a virus?

The Error Signature listed the following:

szAppName : firefox.exe     szAppVer : 43.0.4.5848     szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0     offset : 00000000

The Error Report Contents listed the following:

C:\DOCUME~1\Manley\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1a60.dir00\firefox.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Manley\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1a60.dir00\appcompat.txt

Any idea what's going on?

Hi Novice77014,

Don't worry about me let's try and fix your poorly computer  :)1.

I don't think it is a virus that is causing the issue, but you did install Avast on your machine. Is it still installed?

Adwcleaner has removed alot of PUP in the logs. It maybe worth un-installing Firefox and re-installing it so its a clean copy of the software.

Scan with MiniToolBox

Please download MiniToolBox by Farbar and save it to your desktop.

  • Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • In the main window please checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log;
    • List Devices (Only problems);
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size;
    • List Minidump Files.
    • Click Go and wait paiently.
    • Upon completion (a reboot may be needed) a file called Result.txt will be saved on your desktop.
Please include the content of that file in your next reply.

    seedy21,

Avast is still installed.  I will uninstall it, and install Panda Security.

If I uninstall Firefox, will I lose all of my bookmarks?  I have hundreds of sites bookmarked as favorites.  If so, how can I save them before uninstalling Firefox?

Also, the blue screens...should I be concerned about them?

I'll run MiniToolBox and post the log this evening.

    Thanks!

    Hi Novice77014,

Thank you for the confirmation. Just because the blue screens started happening from when Avast was installed, I wonder if the issue is related to the program .

Regarding Firefox, you will need to back-up and restore your bookmarks. This link will tell you how to do this.

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_backup-and-restore

Keep me updated and let me know if you still have the blue screen of death .

I ran MiniToolBox, but there wasn't a .txt file named Result.txt.  There was a .txt file named MTB.txt.  Here are the results:
