DELL stopped providing Win7 O/S Disks.
« on: April 11, 2010, 05:05:25 PM »
"Dell no longer provides the operating system or resource disks in the box for Windows 7 Systems. It is important for you to create recovery disks in case of a hard drive failure. If you do not create the recovery disks, there may be a charge from Dell for the operating system recovery media".

Didn't Dell loose a court case over this a short time ago?

Can they not be ordered as a separate item when the system is ordered from Dell?
(I realize that there is an open topic on this at Dell, but I'm asking for the benefit of others who participate at SpywareHammer.)

I just went to Dell's website and went thru the order process. I have three Dells that I ordered this way. When I did it before, there was an option to purchase the CD's / DVD's of the installed software. When I went thru the process just now, it was missing. They may ask just prior to placing the order, but it looks like they don't provide physical disks anymore. I guess my next system will be home built.

My guess is that they will receive so many complaints that they will reconsider.

I know Hewlett Packard did. It was a class action law suit and as I recall the payout was exactly what it should have been...everybody that bought any of the HP desktops during that time span involved, all had the recovery disks mailed out to them. I got mine that way.

The setup I believe is nearly identical. HP's Pavilion desktops all came preinstalled with XPsp1 or just XP alone along with a hidden partition from which you could boot to restore the system to factory condition. I hated that.  >:(
