The Scrap Value of a Hacked PC

by Brian Krebs, Security Fix, May 26, 2009

Computer users often dismiss Internet security best practices because they find them inconvenient, or because they think the rules don't apply to them. Many cling to the misguided belief that because they don't bank or shop online, that bad guys won't target them. The next time you hear this claim, please refer the misguided person to this blog post, which attempts to examine some of the more common -- yet often overlooked -- ways that cyber crooks can put your PC to criminal use.

He has provided a graphic chart that further groups the categories of criminal abuse.

I thought that he was attempting to reach out to the public and especially to people who say, I don’t have anything on my computer that is of any value to a cyber-criminal.  I have heard the same thing many times by friends and relatives.  This is an increasingly important topic with the upward trend to use combined attacks, with increased social engineering tactics, and that target social media sites.
