Top Scoring AV Tests
« on: August 27, 2018, 11:25:29 AM »
Windows Defender Antivirus consistently achieves high scores from independent tests, displaying how it is a top choice in the antivirus market.
We want to be transparent and have gathered top industry reports that demonstrate our enterprise antivirus capabilities. Note that these tests only provide results for antivirus and do not test for additional security protections.

Speaking as an interested observer with no ties to Microsoft, I agree that Microsoft deserves to pat itself on the back for the rehabilitation of its security solutions (WD/MSE) in the past 2 years. The positive test results referenced are not cherry-picked, but represent a sustained improvement over recent times to the highest level.

I would also add the most recent results from SELabs (a less well-known but reputable successer to Dennis Labs) regarding protection by major vendors against malware. Tests were conducted from April-June, 2018. Windows Defender received the highest "AAA" rating, the only free AV to do so. Free AVs from Avira, AVG and Avast scored well, but only attained "AA" rating.

Those still using Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on Win 7 should also be reassured by the latest tests by AV Test in Jan-Feb/2018, where MSE protected against 100% of 0-day and prevalent malware, and was awarded the highest "Top Product" badge.

I currently protect all my Win 7/10 systems with MSE/WD, despite my previous good experiences with the free 3rd party AV alternatives available from Avast, Panda, Kaspersky, Sophos etc.
