Windows 10 Update: May Warning
« on: April 28, 2019, 09:35:09 PM »
"In a new advisory, Microsoft has warned users that they will need up to twice as much free storage on their PCs to receive Windows 10 1903, the upgrade which finally gives all users control over Windows updates. The new requirement will apply to all versions of Windows 10: Home, Pro and Enterprise.

The new minimum is 32 GB, double the previous 16 GB stipulation of 32-bit Windows 10 and almost 40% more than the 64-bit editions."

Comment:
- I am glad to see that the pending V.1903 update will restore to the home user the ability to locally control updates. Particularly given the poor track record or Windows 10 updates inthe past year.
- As an aside, I note that my first Dell purchased in 1999 with the largest hard drive then available was 36 GB. The Windows 98 SE operating system required only 500 MB of disk space!
- My only question is whether to install this latest version ASAP, or to delay it for one month (my usual practice). It is not a question of the increased disk storage, which is not a problem, but whether this version will be problem free ...

Feature updates are problem free for most people, but there are so many different configurations of hardware and software on the millions of computers worldwide that the updates are never problem free for everyone.

Howdy all.
I have Windows 10 build 1903   by having been on the Insider Preview.
As regards free space, my experience did show that you will get a prompt if  insufficient free space is indeed the case.

The May 2019 update is available if one goes thru a Windows Update check.

Hi Maurice.,
Thank you for the screenshot. Yes, Windows Update will back out and let the user know why. That will be helpful for people with older hardware.
So far, there have been a couple of other blocks noted in addition to the external drive situation:
