Adobe Acrobat Reader Printing Problem
« on: June 23, 2017, 06:59:53 AM »
I have started having a problem printing PDF documents on my Windows 8.1 computer.  I can print other types of files, but not the PDFs.  When attempted, I receive the messages "The document cannot be printed" and "There were no pages selected to print".

Searching online for solutions, I tried deselecting protected mode in Acrobat Reader preferences and selecting "Print as Image" in the print dialog panel.  Neither worked.

I've even tried restoring my computer to a prior restore point but that did solve it either.  Very perplexing.   We normally print a lot of PDF documents for my wife's business and need to get this resolved, hopefully short of replacing my computer.  Thanks.

Because Adobe products tend to be plagued with newly discovered vulnerabilities, I stopped using them long ago so I don't really have a fix for your problem, except uninstalling Adobe and installing to see if that works.

However, I recommend you consider an alternative. I've been using Foxit Reader for years and really like it for all my .pdf needs. Another excellent alternative is Sumatra PDF. Both are free and very effective. As with any program, be sure to select the custom install option and opt-out of any extras offered you don't want.

Yes, thank you for the tip.  I did finally come to the realization that there are other alternatives to Acrobat Reader shortly after posting my issue and did download Foxit.  That solved my immediate printing problem.  Of course, there is still the perplexing issue with Acrobat and what triggered the problem.  I tried restoring my computer to a prior backup point at least a couple of weeks past and before the printing problem started, but that did not solve it.  Just glad at this point that I have an alternative.   Thanks.

Just glad at this point that I have an alternative.   Thanks.
And, IMO, a much more secure one at that!
Glad it worked and thanks for posting your followup.

Now I recommend you totally uninstall Adobe.
