computer connecting very slow to web pages
« on: April 04, 2014, 02:29:33 PM »
When I connect to web pages they take a very long time to load.  problem is definitely the computer and not the service or other equipment because i hooked another computer up in same place and it was fine.  I ran avast virus scanner and malware bytes programs and both come back clean.  problem occurs using both firefox and chrome.  Please any help is appreciated.  thanks

Sounds like all you need to do is to run Ccleaner.  Instructions below. If that does not work, let me know.

1.Download and scan with CCleaner
When you get to the website, there is a dark grey box on the left side with two tabs along the top. Inside this Dark Grey box is a light grey box. Below that light grey box is where the download links are at. The pay amount is for paid support.
2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:

    • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies if you want to keep those.
    • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.

    In the Applications Tab
      • Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
      • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
      • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
      • Clean any others that you choose.

      4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
      5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
      6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
      7. Click "exit" when done.

Click Start. click run, type: cmd, and press CTRL+SHIFT+Enter
Type: netsh winsock reset, and then press the ENTER key.
      Type: Exit and press ENTER.
      Restart the computer.

If you are using XP the instructions are the same, just do not do the part in red.

Actually I was thinking more of a problem with the drivers on the problem computer.

Go into the device manager and then go to network devices and uninstall the Network Interface Card, then reboot the computer. Let Windows reinstall the NIC, then test it and let me know how it goes.

Do you have a network interface card in the computer? I will get you better instructions tomorrow. I just got back from the emergency room. I am in the middle of passing a kidney stone, and am a bit groggy.

Please download and install Speccy. Once that is done, then start it up. Once it is done analyzing, click on File and then on Save Snapshot. Save the snapshot to your desktop and then right click on it and select Send To and then Compressed (Zipped) Folder. I will send you a PM on what to do with the file.

Your PM says that you are not going to the link I posted. Can you tell me what you are seeing when you click on the link? When I click on it, I go to the proper page.

Are you using a proxy server for some reason?

If not, Open a command prompt (all programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and type in
Ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt and then hit enter. Then type in ipconfig.txt to open notepad with the log. Copy it and paste it in to your next response.

Go to the control panel and then to internet options, click the connections tab then click the LAN settings tab and uncheck all the boxes in the window that pops up. Then click OK back to the desktop. Now reboot your computer and then test your internet connection. See if it works any better.

If the connection is still slow, please run DDS using the instructions below.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
      • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
      • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
      • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
      • Notepad will open with the results.
      • Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
      • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
