gayeway computer windows 7
« on: June 13, 2014, 03:09:02 AM »
Hi   my name is Silvia. I have a daughter named Danielle she has the exact computer laptop I do, we bought them together, and she took out her hard drive because she thought that was why her laptop was heating up, yet I told her they all heat up, and that wouldn't be why. she still insisted in taking it out,

Ours is 64/32 bit gateway NV52L08u she has been playing games, and all was well, then like I said it got a little hot and I said I would get her a cooling system for her on payday, she took out her hard drive, anyway after asking her to stop. well we put it back in the same way the guy on u tube showed people. yet no it reads no either net, and also needs boot disc,  and something about bios.

we have Comcast for our service for all our stuff t/v phone, and internet.  if I used a stick and copied my computer onto the stick instead of a disk and then when done would she be able to have her computer back?  if so how do I do this thank you all

hard drive issue
« Reply #1 on: June 13, 2014, 09:23:32 PM »
Hi I posted on general issues I believe,   but now I am here because this is a hard drive issue, my daughter who is 29 yrs. old thought if she checked her hard drive to see if that had anything to do with it and of course it does not..... She touched nothing inside the hard drive that part was not opened..

when we saw it  on u tube,it showed a picture of how to put it in, seems easy....well it isn't. we  put it back in as shown on u tube.......yet it isn't recognizing it...........   It says it needs an either net,  We have Comcast...also it says needs boot disk.

When you look at the hard drive I see 3 prongs and only 2 prongs on the inside of the laptop to plug it in?  what could be wrong I know we took it out and pulled to the left as shown yet something is not connecting help please thank you...

Apologies for the delay. RootK will be helping you but something personal came up. I will get you started in the fix.

Can you give me a link to the Youtube video that you used to reinstall the harddrive? Also when you start the computer can you hear the harddrive spin up? Have you ever had the dust cleaned from the fan or cooling fins in the computer?

First you do not need special gloves to remove the harddrive or to reinstall it. BUT you do need to know some basics like ESD precautions. It is possible that you have cooked the harddrive and/or the computer. I do not trust the people at big box stores to repair computers. I have fixed to many unfixable computers from them. But you will have to do the testing and possibly some of the physical work to get it fixed.

First you need to download a copy of Knoppix and a copy of IMGBurn . Save both of these to the desktop of a computer with a CD Burner.

Next stick a blank CD into the CD drive and follow the instructions here to burn the Knoppix ISO to the CD.

Now take this CD to the computer with the problem. You will need to start the computer up. Don't worry that it will not start or even if the harddrive is still not installed correctly. Open the CD tray and stick the knoppix CD into it. Now turn the computer off and back on.

Let me know if it boots or even tries to boot to that CD.

In IMGBurn did you select the option to burn an image to disc? If you select the file KNOPPIX_V7.0.5CD-2012-12-21-EN.iso that you downloaded, and then follow the instructions I posted the link to, then everything will work properly. Don't change any settings that it does not tell you to change.

The only reason I had you put them both on the desktop was to make it easier to find so the burning would go easier. It is not doing anything to the computer. The only thing you are doing with these files is creating a disc that is bootable to make sure the other computer has not been damaged.
