i downloaded hoove knopix and it was 5 minutes download. and when you gave me a new knopix to download it was 45 minutes...

If you already downloaded the ISO file using the link posted by Hoov, then you don't need to download it again.

also   I  more question.................  do I do it all on 64 bit side?

It doesn't matter if your computer computer is 32bits or 64bits.

when I save knopix it shows not a book like on your video it shows just a round cd with a white background...

Don't worry about that, it is just an icon.

ok I did what you said and your video said AWS and I did max

Instead of setting the speed to AWS/MAX, set it to 16x or slower, then burn the CD by clicking on the 'Write' button. After burning the Knoppix ISO to the CD, do the following:

Take this CD to the computer with the problem. You will need to start the computer up. Don't worry that it will not start or even if the harddrive is still not installed correctly. Open the CD tray and stick the knoppix CD into it. Now turn the computer off and back on.

Let me know if it boots or even tries to boot to that CD.

Rookt

mixedup58..............I was thinking since this computer of mine,    is just the same as my moms.......and it stops 1/4 of the way as it says its loading this, and that, and you hear   the ding ding ding......      all is well............   Then we thought maybe,  I needed another memory, But you said windows is all gone.................   so my mom and I thought,  since this is a gateway laptop....NV52LO8u.......64/32 bit     computer,   and it has two part ions..........the reason it stops 1/4 of the way is because we may be using only an 80 minute   CD    so it probably is loading the 32 bit side...........and there isn't enough room on the 80 minute CD      for it to finish the 64 bit side.............because I did it all right,   and it showed knopix and Linux.   and started windows down load   then stoped............so I think it did the 32 bit  side yet there wasn't enough room on the CD for the whole 64 bit part ion since it is a two bit??? what do you think?......If I should get a larger CD...........then what would you recommend? is there like 120 minute CD's??? or higher????  I think that is the problem  unless you can find a knopix that does a two part ion?     I know its the 4th  and I want you to enjoy yourself,    but should we get bigger CD??? or   wait till you find knopix for a two part ion computer?    I know it did the 32 bit side because every thing you said would happen did,   Then it just turned gray,  so I either need a bigger CD or the 80 min one 's I have need a different knopix.....  thanks a million.......   happy fourth to all of you great computer people............and the forum    mixedup58.

That gray screen may be caused by a bad burn of the CD. Start the computer from the CD again, when the black screen with the KNOPPIX logo appears, press F2, then type knoppix testcd and hit enter. That will check the CD data integrity. Let me know what does it say once the process is done.

Wait till the process finishes. It shouldn't take too long.

Just to be clear, the architecture of your computer (the 32/64-bits) has nothing to do with the problem, it only means that you can run both the 64-bit and 32-bit applications on your computer, but the problem has nothing to do with this. The same goes for the CD size, you don't need another CD, because the one you are currently using is perfectly fine and the only problem with it would be a bad burn which is something you will need to check by following the steps posted before.

Just follow the steps and don't worry about the results, just post them back here.
