We don't know of anyone that has a Windows 7 DVD.  I found this website, with an article on how to obtain a free installation DVD.  Do you think this is legitimate? :sd

Hi Hoov-

I have a Windows 7 install DVD.  Can you tell me how I should proceed?

Stick the disc into the drive and try sfc again.

Click on the start button then all programs, then accessories and then right click on Command Prompt and select run as admin. Then type in sfc /scannow and hit enter. Then once that is done type in findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >cbs.txt and hit enter. Once that is done (should take seconds) type in cbs.txt and hit enter. Copy the text and paste it up here.

The bad part of this is in the process of fixing windows, some of the updates you had done previously will have to be reinstalled. But it should take care of a lot of the problems.

I tried the "sfc /scannow" command again, but I'm receiving the same message: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

The DVD works; when I selected it (Start>Computer>CD Drive (D:) Windows 7), the "Install Windows 7" screen appeared.

I made sure I typed the sfc command correctly, but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Hit the windows key and the R key and type in msconfig and hit enter. Make sure it is set to Normal Startup If its not, do that and then click Apply then OK and reboot the computer. Now try again.

That didn't work either.  I'm still receiving the same message, even after rebooting.  The message I'm receiving is: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

Should I install Windows 7 again?  If I do so, will everything on the computer be lost?

We are far from that.

Next try a startup repair. Follow the instructions here.

I tried booting the computer with the install DVD, but was unable to get the computer to prompt me to use it.  I restarted the computer several times, and never received this message.

The last time I restarted the computer, I pressed F2, and was able to route myself to the Boot Manager.  I have the following boot options:

1.IDE 1: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7585H
2. IDE: 0: WDC WD5000BEVT-22A0RT0
3. Network Boot: LEGACY PCI DEVICE

Can I use any of these options, since I'm not being prompted to "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD?"

Select the first option, that should do the trick.

I had to select: Start > Computer > CD Drive (D:) Windows 7.  The Install Windows screen appeared, but I don't have the option to "Repair your computer." (This is step 4 of 10 on the link you provided me.)  ??? ??? Any thoughts about next steps?

Well I guess you will have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. I can't give you exact instructions, there are too many different BIOS's out there. But the instructions for making changes and maneuvering around the BIOS on either on the right side or along the bottom of each window.

When you first start the computer do you get a message about pressing F2 or some other key to go into Setup? That is the nice word for BIOS.

If you don't get that message, what is the make and model number of the computer?
