My laptop CD ROM drive stopped reading DVD/CD?
« on: October 15, 2014, 11:07:21 PM »
I tried to make a cd with nero and I think I put the CD the wrong way round in the laptop and now it doesn't read anything.

Have you go into the device manager to see if there is a problem with the drive? Take a look and see if it is reporting a problem.
When you stick a disk in there, does it sound like it spins at all? How do you mean you stuck the disc in wrong? No matter how you stick the disc in, at worst it will not do anything. So it was probably a coincidence.

It makes a reading noise and stops after 2 seconds. Device manager isn't reporting a problem with the device. It worked fine until I tried reburning a CD. I believe it was placed the wrong way round a few times and then it stopped reading CDs and DVDs.

Eject the tray and make sure that there is nothing jammed in there.

Please download and install Speccy. Once that is done, then start it up. Once it is done analyzing, click on File and then on Save Snapshot. Save the snapshot to your desktop and then right click on it and select Send To and then Compressed (Zipped) Folder. I will send you a PM on what to do with the file.

Started working again after a few restarts.
