Dear Hoov, Dear Bear,
Thanks very much for your great advice. After I posted the first time, I was upset and tried Recuva as I mentioned. It found the file and asked if I wanted to save it to my jump and if I did the chances of recovery were slim. I didn't save it but made a new folder on my drive. Maybe that was the mistake. If I recall, already at that time though the file name looked strange. _pril.txt instead of april.txt I was unable to do anything for two days as the library wouldn't allow downloading pcinspector but I tried it at work and saw the file. Still corrupt. Did CHKDSK as advised and ran pcinspector again and still shows a poor copy and when you open, it is corrupt. The file size is accurate, 350KB, but data unreadable. I emailed the text file to myself. Is there some way to decipher it? If not, should I begin to use the flash drive again with no hope of recovery? If so, I will. Sometimes you just gotta move on from bad things. It's just information.... Would I have knowingly deleted it? Absolutely not. But, what to do?
This is the best forum. And I love you bear. You are the best for coming to my rescue, as well Hoov. Much appreciated!!
