[Opinion] nothing gets accomplished on this website
« on: March 27, 2010, 12:41:52 PM »
Anyone notice nothing ever gets accomplished on this website. Just recommendations to download a scanner, post results, download another scanner, post results...until the user gets sick of the games.  Face it, if your computer is infected wipe it clean and start again.

I have a few problems with this. First you are posting it in the wrong location, so I am going to move it to the proper location until it can be reviewed by Admin. Second, you complain without going thru the process. There are many users that come here and have good outcomes for one reason, they stick with the process from beginning to end, you did not.

There is a reason we ask you to run a scan and post a log, we are not sitting in front of your computer, so the only way we can tell what is wrong is by using these scans. If you would like to pay me $20 an hour plus per diem plus a first class plane ticket and a rental car, I will show up at your front door post haste. Although if you are outside the US, you may have to wait for me to get my passport renewed.

If you would like for your log to be reopened so we can help you with your problem, I will be more than happy to reopen it, as I was the one that tried to help you to begin with.

I can also recommend other sites if you like, but I can pretty much guarantee that you will get the same kind of service there.

Thank you for your input, Angharad. While a reformat/reinstall is an option, many users would prefer not to do that.

We try our best to help our SpywareHammer members. We take our jobs on this site seriously, and hope that the members understand that we are not playing "games" but that malware removal sometimes involves many steps and always involves patience by the original poster and by the trained helper.

Hi, Angharad,

I am one of the Administrators of this site.  I have looked into your complaint.  Let's start with the facts:

1.  You have made a total of exactly 3 posts here including this one.

2.  Your first post, on January 31, 2010, at 1:21:33 PM EST, was to our Malware Removal forum.  Included as an attachment was what purported to be a HJT log for our review.

3.  At 1:35:57 PM EST on the same day, just 14 minutes later, I posted in your topic that we do not open attachments because we have had occasions when malware writers have tried to attach our systems by including executable scripts in what was supposed to a log.  We do NOT ever open attachments to posts unless we specifically requested them.  We need to protect ourselves from malicious intent.  If you cannot understand that, you are being foolish.

3.  On the next day, February 1, 2010, you posted the requested log.  We are busy here, and are all volunteers, and get to people as fast as we can.  Sometimes it takes a day or more for that to happen.

4.  On February 4, 2010, Hoov posted your first instructions for finding and removing the malware on your system.

5.  YOU NEVER RESPONDED to his straightforward instructions.  You abandoned the topic and wasted our time, taking our time away from helping someone else.  That problem is yours, not ours.

You clearly do not have any justification for your comments.  You decided not to respond, not us.  You are completely free to post for help elsewhere, and I strongly suggest that you do so.

I also want to point out that we are totally volunteers, none of us receive any compensation for helping others.  Nor do we ever charge for our services.  And, our success rate with members who stick with us and let us help them is over 99%.  Not too shabby for a completely free service.

I know this is an old thread, but I popped on here to do a little research and saw this. I had to respond.

I am not an administrator, just a user of this forum. Wiping my system clean is not an option for me. Both PC Bruiser and Hoov have helped me stratghten out a couple of systems I use. It can be time consuming, but nowhere near the time it would take to recover and recreate what I would lose reformatting or reinstalling.

What I have learned in just a few short hours on this site has enabled me to solve many relatively simple problems without assistance.

Hi Marco,
Glad to hear you got your problems sorted out!

Sometimes wiping clean is not an option, most times it is not a necessity.
It makes me wonder why people who insist on the 'reformat and reinstall' path bother to visit the forums in the first place if that is their preferred method ;)1

Sometimes computer problems are tricky and all those scans are needed to really uncover the problem. I know Hoov and PCBrusier really helped me with my problem. These people are doing you an awesome favor even TRYING to help you resolve your issues, the least you can be is thankful. Go to a random computer repair shop and dropped a couple hundred to get jerked around or come here and get help from some great individuals who know what they are talking about.

SH, you guys are fantastic. Thanks so much for all your help! I'll be sure to send a donation your ways!

And I'd like to throw in my twopennyworth, which is that the help I've had from 1972vet has been totally fantastic and my computer is running A1. It took quite some time but I have absolutely no regrets and I cannot agree less with the OP's comments.

I know we're not supposed to get sassy, or personal, etc., and I read every last bit that I was given to read down to the fine print....

I'm laughing so hard right now!!! That was too funny.

I can't believe the nerve of some folks really, you give and somehow it's never quick enough, big enough, etc. It really isn't Brain Salad Surgery to pay attention and watch how things progress through your system, I was a newb when I first showed up, duh, and I made it.   :w1

Hats off to ya all, you do a darn good piece of work for us all !!!

I read all of your post and I need to explain
« Reply #11 on: December 01, 2011, 01:23:35 PM »
First off I need to explain why I didn't get back to Hoov right away when he posted to me. I was very ill, and was in the hospital so I was unable to post anything. as soon as I got home, I went on my computer and looked at the website. I then posted back and told him what I wanted to do about my problem. In fact I just posted today. I'm sorry if You all took my absense as poor attitude towards all of you. I never meant to hurt anyone or take up anyones time needlessly. I know there's other people you need to attend to, and I'm sorry if I came off as impatient. Please accept my apology, as I love this website and would like to continue on if you'll let me. Thank You for listening. Muriel Warren

Life happens and we all know that, as it has happened to us at one time or another. As for any attitude, it did not come over as that. It seemed like  a normal conversation. So don't worry about any of that. Our only concern is with your computer and the software you are downloading. If you need a piece of software but can't afford the commercial version, go to the appropriate board and ask for recommendations. There are lots of open source legally free software out there that can be used in place of the commercial software.
