Removal of AA_v3 and AMMYY.com
« on: August 02, 2014, 11:14:50 AM »
About a week ago I was scammed by a phone caller who was pedaling (supposedly) software to protect my computer from an imminent shut down.  He claimed he was a Microsoft Tech Rep who had received messages from my computer that it was being hacked from China.  He took control of my computer and showed me bogus messages to confirm it.  Then he offered to fix the problems and give me a year's protection services for $185.00 or lifetime for $300.00.  I paid it.
Feeling unsettled I did some easy research found out about the scam.  I changed all the banking info but I found the above programs on my computer.
I then went through the "you dumbass, idiot, stupid" beating myself phase and went about trying to remove it.
No matter what I tried I couldn't get rid of it.  It appears to be hidden well.  I couldn't find it anywhere even with a registry search. I used the "Shred" option from McAfee and it appears to be gone but I probably only removed the desktop icon.
How do I get rid of this?  I am very concerned about other data.
