Statement of Site Policy and Forum Rules

By using these forums, you agree that you have read the following Statement of Site Policy and Forum Rules and agree to abide by them.

Membership.  Each member is limited to one user account unless an additional account is specifically authorized by an Administrator or Moderator.  Unauthorized accounts will be deleted.  User names that are offensive or otherwise violate the rules relating to content of posts will not be permitted.  After you register and login to this forum, you will be able to fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information the forum owner or staff determines to be inaccurate or vulgar in nature will be removed, with or without prior notice.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another person except an administrator, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another person's account for any reason.  We also HIGHLY recommend you use a complex and unique password for your account, to prevent account theft.

Including "SpywareHammer" or anything else that suggests official affiliation with the site in a user name is forbidden unless approved by an Administrator.  Members with such user names will be requested to change the name.  Failure to comply within a reasonable time will result in the name being administratively changed, removal from membership, or other action deemed appropriate by the Administrators.

Appropriate sanctions, including removal of information or banning a member temporarily or permanently may be applicable for violations of the rules pertaining to user names and information or for violation of the rules concerning content of posts.

Content of Posts.  You agree you will not post content that:
  •    contains or solicits false, defamatory, or inaccurate information
  •    is abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing
  •    contains vulgar, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, pornographic, or other 'adult' material
  •    is religious or political in nature
  •    invades the privacy of another individual
  •    contains identifying information about any minor
  •    contains, links to, or solicits any illegal conduct
  •    contains, links to, or solicits any copyright material, including pirated software, warez, illegal hacking (cracking), key generators, or information or tools to circumvent copyright protections
  •    constitutes spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or solicitation
The above list is intended to provide a general overview of content that is not permitted.  No list can possibly define all objectionable material.  The Administrators and Moderators may remove content that in their view violates the intent and purpose of these rules although such content may not be specifically listed.

Restrictions on attachments and links.  Unless specifically requested or given prior approval by a staff member, no attachments are to be included in any post.  Unauthorized attachments will be removed.  Additionally, links to websites may be removed or modified to make them non-functional.  Infected attachments and links to malware sites are a common method of introducing malware to a user’s computer.

Personal Messages.  Please keep in mind that all staff are volunteers and have limited time to devote to their efforts here.  Unsolicited personal messages to staff should be kept to a minimum.  Under no circumstances should a personal message concerning a problem relating to your computer issues be sent to a staff member unless the staff member specifically requests it.

Please remember also that personal messages are just that – personal.  The content of a personal message is not to be disclosed either in a message to another member or in a post to the forums without the consent of the person who sent you the message.  An exception to this is that any member may report a personal message to a moderator or administrator if such message is in violation of the Site Policy and Forum Rules.  The policies and rules relating to Contents of Posts apply to personal messages.

Indemnity.  You agree to indemnify and hold harmless this Site, its owner(s), management, employees, and staff from any and all third party claims, liability, damages and/or costs (including, but not limited to, attorneys fees) that may arise from your use of the Site or use of your account by another person, including violations of these rules or infringement of any person's or entity's intellectual property rights.

Removal of objectionable material.  The staff and the owner of this forum reserve the right to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if they determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, please realize that they may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

Note that it is impossible for the staff or the owners of this forum to confirm the validity of posts. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages, and as such, are not responsible for the content contained within. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented. The posted messages express the views of the author, and not necessarily the views of this forum, its staff, its subsidiaries, or this forum's owner. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator or moderator of this forum immediately.  This may be done by using the link 'Report to moderator' at the bottom of each post.

Certification of age.  Membership is limited to persons 13 years old and older.  By creating a user account and logging on, you certify that you are over the age of thirteen (13) years.

Assumption of risk.  The site, its staff, and volunteers endeavor to assist members and others with computer related problems including ridding a member's computer of malware such as viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, and rootkits.  Such malware may inflict irreparable harm on a system.  Steps taken to remove the malware and/or to repair harm that it has done may result in loss of data or additional harm, including rendering a computer unusable.  By using these forums and seeking advice, you agree that you assume the risk inherent in using the tools offered and you further agree that you will hold the site, its staff, and volunteers harmless from any damage that may result from the use of the forums.

Certification of authority to perform modifications. By seeking assistance to modify a computer, including removal of malware, installation of software, or any other changes on the computer in question you certify that you have the authority to seek such assistance and make such modifications.  This issue arises most often with respect to work computers.  Even with your certification by virtue of this rule, staff members may ask for further assurance of your rights concerning the computer.

P2P software, commercial keyloggers, cracked/pirated software, etc.  Because P2P software is so often used for downloading music, movies, and other material in violation of copyright laws, SpywareHammer staff will not provide assistance with installation or troubleshooting P2P software.  Additionally, because P2P usage is a prime source of malware, if an infected computer has P2P software, you must remove it before staff will assist with malware or rootkit removal.

Similarly, commercial keyloggers pose many problems, in that they may be used for both legitimate and not-so-legitimate purposes.  Because of the complex situations in which a keylogger may be installed on a computer, SpywareHammer staff will not assist in installation, removal, or troubleshooting commercial keyloggers.  Staff will assist in removal of keylogging features of adware, spyware, or other malware.

No assistance of any kind will be offered with respect to a computer that has keygens or unlicensed, cracked, or otherwise pirated software running.  This policy extends to assistance in any form whether related to the suspect software or not.  Use of software through these means is illegal in the United States, where SpywareHammer is incorporated, and most other countries.  SpywareHammer’s staff neither condones such activity nor offers assistance on a system which has such software.

This policy may extend to other software that presents issues similar to those presented by P2P software, keyloggers, and/or cracked or pirated software, keygens, etc.

Your privacy.  Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.

Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer.

Modification.  This Statement of Site Policy and Forum Rules may be amended or modified at any time without prior notice.
