Hi,
Internet Explorer opens much faster and runs faster but it still freezes and I have to click control-alternate-delete numerous times to get going again.

Thanks

Hi Nbushell

The next step will be to reset IE

  • Open up Internet Explorer
  • Click the Tools button Tools, and then tap or click Internet options.
  • Click the Advanced tab, and then tap or click Reset.
  • In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
  • When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, tap or click Close, and then tap or click OK. You'll need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.

After completing this please test IE and let me know how IE is running.

Hi Nbushell

Can you tell me is it a specific website that freezes on you?

Step 1

We need to run a Command with Command Prompt

Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Right Click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator

Type in the following line followed by clicking Enter

sfc /SCANNOW

If they was no errors please exit Command Prompt.

Please test Internet Explorer after running Step 1 and if your stil having issues please move on to Step 2

Step 2

I would like another FRST Report

  • Double-click the downloaded icon to run the tool.

  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

  • Press Scan button.

  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Hi Seedy21,

There are no particular sites that it happens to, it just seems to be random.

Re: [Inactive] Dell Inspiron taking up to a minute to load IE 9 and freezing
« Reply #20 on: February 28, 2015, 04:26:00 AM »
Hi Nbushell

How long have you been having this issue with IE?

More information about Installing and run Combofix can be found HERE

Please download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
**IMPORTANT! Save ComboFix to your Desktop. Read the following thoroughly
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.  Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on 'ComboFix.exe' & follow the prompts.
  • If ComboFix finds any Updates, Please allow ComboFix to run them.
  • ComboFix will now disconnect your computer from the Internet and start scanning for Malware so do not be surprised or concerned if you receive any warnings stating that you are no longer on the Internet. When ComboFix has finished it will automatically restore your Internet connection. please be patient.
  • When the scan finished, it will delete the malware found and reboot your computer automatically. Don't reboot your computer manually, let ComboFix do it.
  • Once your computer is rebooted, ComboFix will start preparing a log. Please let it do so unhindered.
  • If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.

Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Please Enable your Anti-virus Software again !!

    Notes:
    1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
    3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making Internet Explorer the default browser.
    4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security.

Seedy21,
It has probably been about 3 months or so, seemed to get progresively worse.
I ran Combofix. While it was scanning a window opened and said that "pev.exe has stopped working." I didn't touch it and it continued to run and produced this log. It never rebooted.

Seedy21,
It is running worse since using the tweaking.com tool. It is very unstable, locks up, won't respond to mouse clicks, pictures missing...
I didn't realize that I should have manually saved the text file until it was too late. Should I run it again to give you the file?

Thanks for the Update please complete the following

Step 1

We need to reset IE

    Open IE
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
Close Internet Explorer. Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

Step 2

We need to delete some Temp Files

Open the desktop, then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
Tap or click the Tools button Tools, then tap or click Internet options.
On the General tab, under Browsing history, tap or click Delete.
Tick the Temporary Internet files and website files checkbox, then tap or click Delete.

Step 3

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Install the progam and select update

  • Once it has updated select Settings > Detection and Protection >Tick Scan for rootkits

  • Go back to the Dashboard and select Scan Now

  • If threats are detected, click the Apply Actions button, MBAM will ask for a reboot

  • On completion of the scan (or after the reboot) select View Detailed Log
Select Export > Select text file and save to the desktop.
Please post that log for my review.

Hi Nbushell

Sorry for the delay.

Can you tell me if resetting IE has undone the freezing issue you got when you ran Tweaking?

Also can you tell me if you have the same issue when you use Mozilla Firefox ?

Seedy21,
No, the reset didn't help, and it occurs with both IE and Mozilla.
Sorry I have such a crabby computer...

Hi Nbushell

Thank you for the extra information. Can you tell me if you have any other machines at your house that connects to the internet? If yes do they have any issue access the internet?

Lets see if we can trace where the problem is.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Hi Seedy21,

I have an Acer Chromebook and a Kindle Fire that I do not have any problems with.

I tried to post the log but got a message that it exceeds the max length.

Is there another way to post it?
