Hello,
I am currently running into a problem where anytime I open Mozilla Firefox there is a pop up window that comes to the front of the screen and it wont go away.  It is in fact blank.  I have attached a photo.  I have tried System restoring to a previous date, removing and installing Firefox, Ran CCleaner and malwarebytes but nothing seems to fix this issue and I have searched online to find resolution with no SUCCESS.  Internet Explorer will work fine with no pop ups.  It seems like this issue is somehow related to Firefox.  I was unable to run DDS tool since I don't believe it is compatible with Windows 8.1 OS.  Also I will ad this computer is practically brand new and has been working fine then all of a sudden today this error came up.  SEE ATTACHED PHOTO

Please help if possible! thanks

* In order to prevent conflicts, you may need to disable your anti-virus/anti-spyware before downloading and running this.

Please go to HERE and download FLMini.zip
Save it to your Desktop.
Some Browsers such as Chrome will save to your Downloads folder.

*If you see a warning or something similar from your anti-virus at any point: "FLMini.zip is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous" (or is a Trojan)->> Select to Keep it

Open the Downloads folder ->> Copy and paste FLMini.zip to your Desktop

 Rt. Click ->> Extract all ->> And extract it to your Desktop

Open the FLMini Folder.
Double Click FLMini.exe ->>
As the program runs, a small window will open to let you know the progress of the scan, and when it is finished. The scan will take a few minutes. It may seem as if it is not doing anything. Please be patient.

Thanks for response unfortunately I cannot extract any files from this zip file once it is downloaded to my desktop.  I have tried everything.  Also I cannot get rid of a partially downloaded file that resulted on my desktop.  Please see screenshots and let me know how to proceed?  Thanks

Hello crxb5

That error looks to be related to Windows Defender. Please make sure its disabled before you extract the folder.

We need to disable Windows Defender Real Time Scanner

Move your Mouse into the bottom right corner of the screen. Then select Search

Type in Win Def

Select Windows Defender to open the program.

Click on Settings and then UNcheck Turn on Real time Protection

Close down the program and restart your computer.

After your machine has rebooted, please try and run the program again.

Remember to follow the instructions again to ENABLE your Anti-virus Software after running this tool

Hi Crxb5

Good Job  :t

Download zoek.exe from here: http://hijackthis.nl/smeenk/ and save it to your Desktop.

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the download or execution of Zoek.exe

You can find instructions how to disable your security applications >>Here<< or >>Here<<
  • Double click zoek.exe to start the program.
  • Copy and paste the following script in the code box:
  • Note: This script is written for usage on this users computer, do not use it on another computer even if the problems are similar !
Code: [Select]
process;
systemspecs;
services-list;
filesrcm;
srinfo;
emptyfolderscheck;
startupall;
firefoxlook;
chromelook;
skipfix-iedefaults;
msconfigcheck;
fakechrprofiles;

  • Close any open browsers.
  • Click the "Run script" button and wait patiently.
  • When finished the logfile will be opened in notepad.
  • If a reboot is needed the logfile will be opened after reboot.
  • The zoek-results.log can also be found on your systemdrive (normally C:\).
  • Please post the logfile for further review in your next reply

Hello sir I Have tried what you have recommended however it seems as if the virus or malware that's in my laptop is preventing this program from running properly.  I have turned off and disabled all antivirus- however the ZOEK program will run for 2 hours and not create a log nor say it has finished??? is this normal???  What should I do?
This is what remains in the script screen in the program:
===== Runcheck 14:41:39.80 =====

--- Create Environment Variables 14:41:40.76
--- Create System Restore Point 14:41:45.62
--- Checking Input 14:41:48.89
--- Empty Folders Check 14:41:59.16
--- Processes 14:41:59.21

This is what the two text files it created read.
Zoek-results :

==== System Restore Info ======================

4/26/2015 2:41:47 PM Zoek.exe System Restore Point Created Successfully.

Runcheck results:

===== Runcheck 14:41:39.80 =====

--- Create Environment Variables 14:41:40.76
--- Create System Restore Point 14:41:45.62
--- Checking Input 14:41:48.89
--- Empty Folders Check 14:41:59.16
--- Processes 14:41:59.21

PLEASE HELP thanks

Hi Crxb5

Please close the program and then restart your computer.

When your computer has loaded up again please Right Click on Zoek and select Run as Administrator

Then run this new scripted instead

Code: [Select]
systemspecs;
services-list;
filesrcm;
emptyfolderscheck;
startupall;
firefoxlook;
chromelook;
skipfix-iedefaults;
msconfigcheck;

I have done exactly as you have requested but the program still doesn't seem to finish.  It never opens a log file as stated.  I have waited 15 minutes.  Please see the following error that popped up when running this program.

Hi crxb5

Thanks for the update. Lets try another Tool

Please Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 64-Bit and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double Click the Program to Run it.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log FRST.txt and Additional.txt which will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
