Thanks for the helpful  information. It is desirable to get the Profile Manager located so:-

Check that Firefox is not already running in Task Manager.

  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task Manager.

  • Open Services at the top, Select Firefox (If present)
  • Click on End Process

  • Click Yes if a "Task Manager Warning" appears

  • Repeat above steps to end any additional firefox.exe processes that may be present.
  • Exit Task Manager.

Check that files are not hidden

  • Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel
  • Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
  • On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Now go back  HERE & try to start the Profile Manager.

Please let me know what success you have.

Platypuss,

In going through the Task Manager info there was no Firefox activity showing in the 'Processes' section. The 4 tabs that I have are Applications - Processes - Performance - Networking

I did see a few that I was wondering if I really need which were:

AmazonCloudDriveW.exe
AmazonCloudDrive.exe
FlipShareService.exe

Following your 'Control Panel' instructions I found that the 'Show hidden files and folders' button was already checked.

Still unable to start Profile Manager.

System still not running right at all and hasn't changed even after cleaning Malware. I can access some websites via I/E and Google but performance is very poor with some websites freezing, trouble with redirects within websites, websites showing up fragmented, trouble closing down websites, often have to close websites after getting 'program not responding' message and clicking 'end now'.

 Firefox can be problematical.

Your files:-
FlipShareService=Legitimate program. Allows you to share Flip videos on popular social media sites.
It is your choice whether or not you want to keep it.

AmazonCloudDrive.exe= Valid entry,it is related to Amazon Online storage service.See HERE for details.

AmazonCloudDriveW.exe=  Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U37 , assuming you do not use Amazon Coud, it can be deleted too.

Hi Platypuss,

I'm still very much with you but am unclear/confused on what to do.

Was able to find my profile folder which is a 'default' so there is only one listed but am unsure what to do with it from there.

Attempting to attach a screenshot of the window I had....hope it appears in posting.

If it appears please advise on what to do with profile file.

Thanks!

   Hello Blackxxx01,

Glad you are still with me, good that you have stopped & asked before going any farther.Screenshot is fine too.

I should have explained what we are doing...Your profile is being renamed so that when Revo uninstalls your
current copy of Firefox, it will not delete your profile which can be moved back into the new copy of Firefox.
Otherwise you would get a default profile with none of your preferences, add- ons etc. installed.
  • So right click on your profile (9jsBh4ko.default)
  • In the pop up window click on Open File Location
  • In the Profiles window Right Click on the Profile & select Rename
  • Delete "9jsBh4ko.default" & rename it by typing Pete Profile
  • Click on the file to confirm & exit.

Next. Go ahead & remove your copy of Firefox with Revo instructions in post above ( Reply #16 on: August 25, 2015, 07:11:15 AM )

Don`t hesitate to ask if you are uncertain about any point

Let me know how it went.

Hi Platypuss,

my apologies but I still have some confusion/questions regarding your instructions. When I right click on my profile (9jsBh4ko.default) I don't get 'Open File Location' as an option but I do get 'Open' as an option in the pop up window. When I click on 'Open' a window opens with several folders and files. There is no folder or file in this new window named 'profile'.

I'm still unclear at which point I rename my profile.

I'm also confused by the wording in these two steps:
In the Profiles window Right Click on the Profile & select Rename
Delete "9jsBh4ko.default" & rename it by typing Pete Profile

It says to delete then rename? Do you mean to rename default folder then delete it?

Sorry for my confusion on this!

Attached is the pop up window I get after performing first two steps.

Hello Blackxxx01,

Thanks for  that, very helpful. We will try another way.

When I right click on my profile (9jsBh4ko.default) I don't get 'Open File Location' as an option but I do get 'Open' as an option in the pop up window.
  • You should get "rename" (near the bottom) in that pop up window.
  • Click on Rename  & when the file appears a box should surround the file name (9jsBh4ko.default) If box fails to appear see NB below
  • Delete (9jsBh4ko.default) inside the box & type "Pete Profile" in the box.
  • Now click on the file, the box will disappear & the new name (Pete Profile) will be installed.
  • Exit

N.B. In this case, highlight the file, wait a few seconds & the box will appear. If you don`t wait long enough or click the file too fast it will open the file.

Hi Platypuss,

So I have good news / bad news. :)

Did the renaming of my profile as instructed and proceeded to the next step of installing Revo and did the uninstall of Mozilla Firefox. Everything seemed to go fine although I did get an error during install (see 2nd attachment) but it continued afterwards to completion.
When I did the re-install of Mozilla Firefox that also seemed to go ok but I got this error (profile missing) when attempting to open Firefox after the fresh install. See attachment.

I went back to Revo to see if I could find a version of Mozilla Firefox but there was none there. I do have a new icon however on my desktop from the fresh install.

As a side note...I have been using Google Chrome and that has been performing fairly well. Was thinking maybe I should just forget about trying to install/use Mozilla Firefox and just stick with using Google Chrome?  Thoughts?

Hi again Playpuss,

Here's an update to my post #23.

As I mentioned before I didn't see the newly installed Mozilla Firefox listed in Revo but I diascovered that it was lsited in my system 'add/Remove Programs' I was able to remove it successfully to my surprise. Afterwards I did separate searches for Mozilla and Firefox and have attached the screens of what the results were.

That would be detrimental, Firefox is recognised as a good quality browser & is popular.Futrure choice would be limited We are well on the way with the repair.Stay with it.

Delete all the Firefox files in the download folder.

  • First move the old profile folder to the desktop.
  • Go back to your profile folder, as you did previously
  • Right click on Pete Profile and then select Cut.
  • Now go to your desktop and right click on any blank spot and select paste.
Now I need you to install and run Ccleaner.

  • Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
  • Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab: as follows:-

    • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.

      • Now click the "Run Cleaner" button.

      • A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
      • Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.

      • Click "exit" when done.

      Hi Platypuss,

First...Thanks for sticking with me and my apologies for getting ahead of myself.

Second...Am I correct in assuming that you want me to go back and re-install Mozilla Firefox and then proceed with your instructions in your posting #25? Just want to make sure before I proceed.

And thirdly....I'm about to leave on an extended vacation of a little over 2 weeks and have become pressed for time. I want to make sure I do all your instructions correctly and was wondering if we could put this on hold until just after September 23rd when I'll be returning? While on vacation I won't be using the laptop we are working on at all and will be left at home.

      Thanks!!!
