When you have the caps problem, does it matter what website you are on?

What addons do you have installed in Firefox?

It seems to be any site in FF, whether it's email, Facebook, or anything else with a field in which you can type.  But if I then type in Word or Notepad, then paste those lower-case letters into the web-page field I was working in, the problem temporarily goes away.

The only add-ons are AdBlock Plus, Switch to Tab No More, and Java Console.

Thanks.

I have talked with others, and we have come up with something else to try.

To Reset Firefox to its default state:
Start Firefox
in the address bar, type in
about:support
Click on the Reset Firefox button at top right of screen.

Also see http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems?s=reset+search+options&r=2&as=s

I know we did a fresh install of Firefox, but this may hit something that we did not get installed freshly. Let me know how it goes.

Is this the same computer you have been having strange intermittent problems over the last couple years, and have been getting help for?

Yes, same computer.  I mean to do the FF reset soon, as soon as I can then allocate the time to start from scratch again (shortly).  Thanks.

Are you having other strange problems with this computer?

The only things that come to mind, which I considered minor and not worth investigating, are like I said if I use Chrome for a long time it eventually stops opening new links or pages.  Also, when I open or close a folder from the desktop, the system briefly flickers (best way I can describe it).  But nothing more that I can think of.

I am wondering if it might not be worth it to start from scratch. In the last three years you have had more oddball problems than I have had in the last 10 years on all my families computers. It could be a combination of your windows installation just needing to be re-done, and your hardware needing a going thru.

Would you be willing to tackle something like that?

Yeah, there have been a number of oddball problems over the years. But my issue with starting from scratch and doing a Windows reinstall is, aside from the time and inconvenience of getting back to where I was with my files, settings, etc, is that I have a number of programs I use a lot for which I've lost the software discs along the way for one reason or another, and so I'd really rather keep this iteration of Windows going for as long as I can help it, instead of having to buy software anew.  You may be right that that would be the better plan, but I just can't afford it right now.  So I'd prefer to tackle things on a problem by problem basis, where they are able to be solved.  I realize that may not always be possible, and I thank you for the time and effort if this particular one remains unsolved.

Hi Poet8

Are you using Hibernate mode? If so change it to Standby mode and see if that changes anything..

Hi, Thanks for that.  But no, I never use Hibernate.  Or Standby, for that matter.  I only ever have the computer fully on or completely shut it down.  But if you have any other ideas, do let me know -- I really appreciate it.
