Hi all,

Six or so weeks ago I started a new job in a technology shop selling T.V's,home cinema systems, blue rays and the like, and on friday we took delivery of the new philips cinema 21:9 television.

Full specs found HERE.

Now this T.V is fantastic as it also comes with built in Wi-Fi,
Here's where my problems lie, as it is a small company with only two outlets and a small warehouse they have no IT department in fact the engineers, although good at fixing tellys, when it comes to IT they are useless to say the least.
just yesterday one was trying to tell me that XP, vista & W7 are DOS systems and W2k is NT and thats why I can't set up a file sharing network.

We have a small office out the back running 3 XP machines and 1 XP machine on the shop floor and according to the DOS engineer they are all run through a W2K server.
The main comp in the office that you have to allow permissions on, for a new machine to connect to the Wi-Fi (Netgear) I have set up to allow the philips T.V access and all works fine as yeasterday I was surfing the full net and even logged in here on the television.
The problem is that there is a option on the T.V to "browse PC" that the sales director wants working, but no matter what I tried to set up a network or file sharing folder on the main PC the philips telly will not find it nor will any other PC connected to the wireless.

I just wondered if someone with a bit more experiance of small networks and servers could tell me what im missing.

I've been on the phone to the philips tech guys and the man had less of a clue then our own engineers but philips did say that the T.V is designed to be compatable with Windows media files so If I can get it working I should be able to watch any movies or view any pictures that are set up for file sharing.

Thanks for any info

Can you see the TV in the router's tables? Disabled the PCs firewall?

Digerati,

thanks for the reply, the TV  shows on the router's table and has been allowed access to the Wi-Fi network but I didn't try disabling the Firewall when I tried to set up the file sharing.
I'm assuming then that this will make a difference.

Thanks

If your firewall is blocking it, then yes.

I didn't give that a thought, I'll have a play around tommorow when I get back to work and see what happens, I know it can be done as all the PC's share the same printer.

Thanks for the info.
