Add/Remove Windows Components Will Not Load
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:32:25 PM »
This could be a possible dll issue, or I may have screwed up a setting. The error code is 0x7e.

The error message that pops up sayis:

"Setup library plusoc.dll could not be loaded, or function OcEntry could not be found. Contact your Administrator."

Can anyone help? Thanks for your time!

What Operating System are you running?
Are you trying to open that function from within Add/Remove Programs?

The OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition. It is the button in Add/Remove Programs on the side titled "Add/Remove Windows Components". When I click on that button I get the error message and I cannot change my Windows Components.

Thanks for the info :)

Can you confirm my understanding that the error code is 0x0000007e?  If that is the case then it could be a hardware (or device driver) or software problem.

Open Device Manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager) and let me know if you see a yellow '!' or a red 'X' in the list of devices.

Now try doing the following - it may be that the .dll file referred to is corrupt ot missing.  If that is the case then this should sort it out.  If not, we need to dive in deeper.

- Go to Start, Run and type the following command in the box:

regsvr32 plusoc.dll
(note the space after 'regsvr32').

You will see a message telling you if that was successful or not.  Let me know what that message is.
If all went well, try opening Add/Remove Windows Components again.

If that didn't fix it, make sure you are logged in using an Administrator account.  Go to Start, Run, type command and click OK..
In the Command window, type sfc /scannow (space after 'sfc') and press Enter.
You may be asked for your Windows installation disk - make sure you have it handy.

That will check, replace and repair your Windows files.  There will be no indication of anything having been done, so wait until the flashing cursor returns and type exit and press Enter to close the Command window.
Try opening Add/Remove Windows Components again.

If neither of those work, go to Start, Run, type control appwiz.cpl,,2 (space after 'control) and click OK.  This should open Add/Remove Programs showing the 'Windows Components' window already selected.  Let me know if that works.

Nothing worked. It is all good though. I just used my recovery disc and re-formated my entire hard drive. It was about time for that anyways. Thanks for taking the time to help my out. I appreciate it.

A Repair Install would have been the next thing to do anyway.

Sorry you had to do the full format/install procedure, but thanks for letting us know :)
At least you know you are starting with a good installation now.
