I've noted in the SpywareBlaster (Wilder's Security) forum that several people are complaning that, with Avira 10.0.0.607 (8 Dec.) +XP, they can no longer update SpywareBlaster and/or no longer fully immunize their system with SpywareBlaster.

Allegedly, other progams such as Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2010, are also impacted (under Avira+XP).

Some believe this is due to a "memory leak".

Posts are also appearing in the Avira Free forums.

Some [including Javacool himself] assert a workaround is  to UNcheck "Protect files and registry entries from manipulation" in Avira... but it seems to me this would be a very radical/dangerous "fix":  http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=288615

Just calling this to everyone's attention, in case you bump into anyone citing the issue.   I am not using Avira, so I myself can't testify.
