I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist that it is installed. Where did you look for this update?

Users have reported this very issue and the only common denominator is that Windows update. We had one user who went so far as to test the theory by running sfc without the update installed, then installing it and running sfc again...then uninstalling the update and another run of sfc.

In each case, users report the very same issue as yours. Without the update, the sfc runs fine and either will have been reported to have repaired something or completed the run without having found any missing or corrupt files. However, once one installs the update, the sfc runs and the same complaint of corrupt irreparable files is logged. The same user uninstalls the update, runs sfc once more to report that the scan completes with no issues.

On your next reply, let us know what other issues remain...if you are unable to locate the update, I would more than likely consider next, a recommendation to either reformat/reinstall or try a repair install. As it is, if your protected files are questionable as to a sfc finding, I would not want to trust the system...period.

Sorry for the delayed response.  The computer was not available to me for a few days.

I tried both the Windows 7 interface and the command prompt approaches to finding this update (using the link you provided), but could not find it.  Not fully trusting myself, I used the find function and still could not find it.  I have attached the output from the command prompt approach for your review.

I hope I am somehow missing it, but I have tried to be thorough and can't find the update I need to remove.

As to the issues that remain, this corrupted file is really it.  Of course, I would like to get my external hard drive working again as well.  Other than the fact that the extrnal hard drive is not connected, I do not have any syptoms/issues now, but it is unnerving that I have this corrupted file that I cannot seem to fix.

Thanks.

Go into your programs and features. Click the "View installed updates" link on the left. Make sure you can view all files...you don't see it there? If not, please follow the instructions Here and post the requested log(s) Here.

Sorry for the delay again.  Again, I did not have the computer available to me for a couple of days.

I installed and ran HijackThis.  Originally, I could not get it to produce the log.  It would run the scan and give me a log, but it would not reproduce that log on Notepad.  I was able to solve the problem by running HijackThis in compatibility mode.

I have the log now.  I want to be sure I do the right thing with it.  Do you want me to start a new thread and copy the log into the new thread or do you want me to copy the log into this existing thread?  If I am using a new thread, does that mean someone else will be picking up this matter or will you track it using my username?

Thanks

Please read the instruction once more. There is a link provided for the forum where I suggested that you post the requested log.

Someone will pick up the new thread as time permits. If I get the time today, I will look for it myself. Meanwhile, if someone else comes along and claims it,  that's fine...just include a link to this thread so they can see what has been done to date. Thanks!

I have posted in the other part of this forum as you suggested - under Corrupt tcpmon.ini file.

In the event that someone else picks up the thread, I want to thank you for all of your help and patience with me.

Also and more importantly, I want to thank you for your service to this country and for your great sacrifice in that regard.
