Mozilla Firefox 3.6.15 crashing when closing.

Mozilla Firefox 3.6.15

When I'm finished using it, when I have only 1 tab open, sometimes I cannot close it be clicking on the rex X, it jsut sits there. I click on the X on the tab and it closes, then brings up the crash report.

Was wondering if an add-on or something with Adobe Flash. maybe?

Try starting Firefox in Firefox safe mode. If it still crashes, then it is Firefox. If it doesn't, then its an addon, and you need to add one addon back end restart Firefox and see if it causes the crash. Keep doing that until you find the addon that causes the crash, then remove it and add one of the others that is left and make sure it doesn't crash again.

1.  Close down Firefox completely: At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu, and select the Exit menu item.

2.  In Windows, click Start, open the All Programs list, and navigate to the Mozilla Firefox folder. In the Mozilla Firefox folder, select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).

3.  Firefox should start up with a Firefox Safe Mode dialog.

4. Click Continue In Safe Mode. This starts Firefox in its Safe Mode. While you are in Safe Mode, your extensions and themes will be disabled, and any toolbar customizations will be reverted back to their defaults. These changes are not permanent - when you leave Safe Mode and start Firefox up normally, your extensions, themes, and settings will return to the state they were in before you entered Safe Mode.

Tried Mozilla Firefox in the safe mode. Did a little navigation and went to look at a youtube video of a fire near our area...

Video was black with sound, then the crash. I restarted and it crashed again. Third startup, it gave the option to restore last session, then it crashed with a different url.

So if I started in safe mode with no boxes checked, then all the add-ons were disabled, which means it's something within Mozilla Firefox 3.6.15, correct?

Could it be one of the plugins? If so, I would have to research some of them.

If you started in safe mode then all the addons are disabled. If you check any of the boxes, then those changes become permanent even after restarting Firefox.

Did you run the last update as an update, or did you download and install Firefox as the full installer?

It was an upgrade.

I am currently disabling the plugins. Real Player would not stay disabled, so I removed the whole program. I did use Real Player to watch the astronauts in space but I remove any program that will not work properly.

Right now just using the Mozilla Default Plugin

Upon further investigating I can still have it crash on youtube using just these plugins.

Have been trying different things. I started Firefox in the safe mode and then clicked on reset to defaults. It is using the default theme and so far there are no issues or crash reports, when closing. Will monitor closely for the next few days to make sure.

There have been a few people reporting problems with that theme, but most love it. I wonder if there is a conflict with something else on your system.

No problem. It has something to do with Noia 2.0 (eXtreme) and the newest version of Mozilla Firefox. I didn't have this issue on an older version of Mozilla Firefox, but it seems it was the last 2 or 3 versions.

Browsing was fine, just closing the browser, when done it would crash. Has not happened since it's been disabled. Something to remember when people are stating that Mozilla Firefox crashes on Youtube. It crashed more there than anywhere else. Think I'll enable it, then have it crash. Send the crash report with the information that it's Noia causing the crashes, then maybe they'll look into it.

Thanks for letting me know.  I only use the plane Jane vanilla version of Firefox with some plug ins. Maybe I need to play with some themes to see how they work.

I disabled Noia (eXtreme) for a few days. I decided if the crash happened, I was going to add that to my report. Hasn't crashed. Wonder if Noia was updated and I didn't notice.

Do you have Firefox to automatically download updates and install them?

I have Firefox update the themes and add-ons and it usually notifies me. It does usually notify me there is a new version of Firefox, then gives me the warning about these add-ons may not work correctly. If they don;t work, then I don't install and upgrade.
