New Cloned Hard Drive Will Not Boot

I have a Western Digitl hard drive installed. I am trying to replace it with a Seagate ST3500641AS-RK.

I am running Windows XP Media Edition.

I installed DiscWizard from Seagate & ran Clone Disc. The Clone process completed with no problems. I rebooted the computer & Windows was able to see the new drive & files.

After removing the old drive, the computer will not boot from the new drive. It does not seem to be seeing the boot record.

Can someone help?   :h

Is the drive connected to the SATA 0 socket?

I have two sockets on the motherboard labled SATA1 & SATA2. It is connected to SATA1.

When you cloned the drive, did you tell it to delete the existing partitions?

This is a new drive & I used the Seagate software to clone it. I selected Automatic. I did not notice any options to delete existing partitions. I will have to look to see if I missed it.

Put the old drive back in with the new drive, boot to the old one and then go into Admin tools, and then to computer manager and then to the disk manager and make sure the drive is a system drive and is active and is set to boot.

It shows Partition style: Master Boot Record (MBR)

The only other thing I can think of is going into the system BIOS with the new drive as the only drive, and make sure that the computer is seeing the proper drive.

With both drives connected, the BIOS shows the following:

Under Standard CMOS Features:

Primary IDE Master        WDC200BB
Primary IDE Slave          Not Installed
Secondary IDE Master   LITE-ON DVDRW
Secondary IDE Slave     Not Installed

Under Integrated Peripherals:

On-Chip PATA-IDE Controller          Enabled
On-Chip SATA-IDE Controller          Enabled

I will remove the WD drive & see if anything changes.

Let me know if I need to check anything else in the BIOS.

I think I see the problem. Take a look thru the BIOS and find the boot devices. Make sure that SATA drive is in the list.

I looked for the boot sequence earlier, but could not find it. The SATA drive was disabled there.

I will continue with all of the updates tomorrow. Hopefully, I will not have any further problems that need assistance. I will let you know if I do.
