How to run HiJack this off a USB Drive

Hello hello,

I am attempting to create a HiJack this log but am running into a sticky situation. I have a computer where it is infected with a virus called "Windows Recovery." I am attempting to create a HiJack this log; however, I am unable to install HiJack this on the computer! I downloaded the install file onto a USB drive and transferred it to the infected computer but when I run the installer it simply freezes. Is there any way I could get a log of the computer? I was hoping to post the log here for assistance in removing this nasty virus. When I try to install HiJack this onto a USB drive I receive an error stating that I must install on a local HDD.

Also, I would be very interested in training to join the ranks of the spyware removal crew but could not find information on how to do so. I love the community this board has created and would love to contribute back! Are there steps in place to join your ranks in the fight against these crappy viruses?

About the other problem, try starting your computer with a clean startup using the following procedure.

I need you to reboot windows cleanly. To do that please go to the run command and type in msconfig . Once that starts, select selective startup, and then uncheck the load startup items. Now click on the services tab, and down near the bottom of the window, check the box that says Hide all Microsoft Services now go up and uncheck all the services still listed, make sure you scroll down the list if need to unselect all the non Microsoft services. Now click apply, then click OK and reboot the computer.


If that works, when you post the Hijackthis log, make sure you mention that you did it this way. If it does not work, go ahead and start a post in the malware removal forum and tell them what you tried, and that you could not get a log.
