I ran the scan.  When it finished scanning is just stopped.  Nothing popped up to tell me if anything went wrong or right.  The c: promt is just blinking.  It took a while to run so I know it worked.  Is there a log file somewhere?

There is a log, but for now lets see how it went. Type in exit and hit enter and then reboot the computer and see how everything is operating.

The chkdsk did run when it re-booted.  It did not find anything.  The compurter locked up shortly after reboot when things were starting up.  I tried to re-boot in safe mode and didn't get past the loading of the drivers.

From your clean computer I need you to make a disk using the Avira Rescue system. The instructions to make it and use it are linked to below. If you run it but cannot save the log, just let me know how it went.

Please download the Avira Rescue system on the clean computer. Then go here and there are instructions on how to burn the CD, how to run the scan with it, and how to save the log.

You need these instructions, because this scan is actually done after having booted to the CD which runs a Distro of Linux, so it is a little different from windows.

Ran the Avira.  It found alot of bad stuff.  I rebooted and had the same problems with Windows though.

Run Avira thru again. If it finds more stuff bad, then run it again. Keep repeating that until it finds nothing. Once you have that done, follow the instructions in the first post here to do a repair install of XP.

Repair install would not work with our OEM disks or the update disk.  The chkdsk kept running when it would reboot and get hung up.  I ended up doing recovery install.  Thanks for your help.  I am back up and running so far.
