According to a report in Japanese newspaper The Daily Yomiuri, a 38-year-old Japanese man has been arrested "on suspicion of storing a computer virus on his personal computer without legitimate reasons."

The arrest follows very quickly on the heels of new Japanese legislation which specifically criminalises the creation, storing and deliberate spreading of malware.

  • Patience is bitter indeed, but its fruit is sweet.
"...new Japanese legislation which specifically criminalises the creation, storing and deliberate spreading of malware..."
That's the part I have problems with. How will anyone in Japan study malicious coding of new found viruses...or any virus for that matter. If some security minded person wants to learn how to help someone who's infected, how would that person gain the upper hand unless s/he has the opportunity to study how it's written? That line in that law would send me up the river lol...oh well, glad I aint thinking of a visit any time soon  :a

I did some more reading about this, on sites more closely targeted to the Japanese (Japanese News sites translated to English). There is one part of the law that seems to not be making the news stories. "Without a reasonable cause" seems to be the part that is being left out.
