Hello, welcome to SpywareHammer.

I go by Hoov, and I will be helping you with your problem. I must ask you to do a few things for me.

First, tell me everything that you have done, if anything, to try and fix this problem.

Second, please only use 1 forum to help clear up your problem. Posting on more than 1 and following instructions from more than 1 forum will cause those helping you to pull out thier hair.

Third, follow my instructions - If you can't for some reason, or if you don't understand something, please tell me. If you deviate from my instructions, tell me, it may make a difference on where we go.

Fourth, Have faith. I will do all I can to get your computer working, and if I can't - someone else here will know something else to try.

Fifth, if we start this fix, I need you to stick with me until the end. Just because your computer is running better does not mean it is fixed.

Before we start trying to fix your computer, you need to make sure your data is backed up. Also let me know of any software you have running that encrypts your harddrive.

Now onto trying to fix your computer.

Can you reboot to safe mode?

If I am helping you and you don't hear from me for 24Hrs, send me a PM Please!

Go into safe mode with networking and see if you can follow the instructions below. It is a very small program, so you might be able to download it.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

This program is for Windows 98/ME/2K/XP and Vista

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click
  • No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

If you were able to run that then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and update it and run a quick scan with it. If it finds something fix it and then post the log. If it doesn't find anything post that log instead.

Go ahead and try the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan.  Try the scan even if you cannot update it.

Do you have access to another computer that you can download to and move file over using a CD or thumbdrive?

Try running it right from the thumbdrive.

Am I correct in assuming that you have another computer with a broadband connection? If you do try creating an Avira Rescue CD and run the scan using the instructions linked to below. If you don't have a broadband connection, let me know.

Sorry, forgot the instructions,

Please download the Avira Rescue system on the clean computer. Then go here and there are instructions on how to burn the CD, how to run the scan with it, and how to save the log.

You need these instructions, because this scan is actually done after having booted to the CD which runs a Distro of Linux, so it is a little different from windows.

Did you burn the file to a disk, or did you run the file to burn the disk?

the imediate problem is not the cd. the problem is that we cant get to the bios to change the boot settings in order to boot up the cd. when we roboot and hit f12,delete,f2,f1 and it keeps brining us to the same setup screen. here is what the choioces it gives us          "Choose an operating system to start, or press tab to select a tool:
(use the arriws keys to highlight your choice, then press enter.)
Microsoft Windows Vista

To specify and advance option for this choice , press f8

Tools:
      Windows Memory Diagnostic"

but none of them seem to take us to the bois settings
