IRiver Voice recorder no longer detected.

I have an IRiver T30 voice recorder that connects by USB, but appears to be no longer detected.  I have tried it in other ports, no luck.  I have other USB devices that are still detected, though (IPOD, External Hard Drive).

But, my camera is no longer AutoDetected (Dont get the pop-up asking what action to take).  But I can access it by using the software that came with the camera.

I dont believe the T30 came with any detection software that I know.

Hi Pauline,

No it is not showing in My Computer.

But, I brought it to work with me today.  It does show in My Computer on this PC here.  But it says 'FAT16 System'  (see attached jpg).

Clicking on that takes forever, but eventually takes me to the 'Voice' folder, but never shows the files.

I know there are files on there, as I can put headphones in the device and listen to them...

Okay let's see if there is a problem with it in device manager...

On your home computer..plug in the device...Right click on my computer>>click manage>>device manager...Double-click the appropriate device category, and then look for an entry for the device....
Right-click the entry for your USB device>>>click Properties.>>Click the General tab>> and then look in the Device status box to see if it mentions any problems with the device...Try updating the driver as well...

Does this device use Windows Media Player..?

Okay, yes it is listed in the device manager, with an exclamation point beside.  Clicked update driver... got an error message... see attached JPG.

As far as Windows Media Player... the installation disk does try to install it.  I've got version 9, the disk has WMP version 10... but I get an error message during that installation as well.

I have XP SP3.

Hi dbower...Your very welcome...

There was a problem with Media Player 10 and service pack 2...Looks like they didn't fix it in 3...

Try and download Windows Media Player 11 at the  link below...Then try and load the IRiver...Remember to use the 'safely remove hardware' via the icon on your taskbar before removing a device..

Okay WMP 11 installed.  Updated the driver.  I get the prompt asking what action to take.   I select view files

shows...

'My Computer\iriver T30\FAT16 System in My computer' (Idont rememember seeing FAT 16 System in the past when using this device).

Get the flashlight icon, forever... waiting, but never shows the files.

Sounds like we are getting close...Check the manufacturers site for new firmware...

Hmmm, i have 2 choices.  Based on whether my device is MTP or not.  I click on the link '(How do I know if my device is MTP version?) '  and the link is dead.  lol.  I can't win for losing.

According to this information I found regarding how to tell which iRiver version you have, I would say you have MTP...

"The easiest way for you is check if your device is UMS or MTP is on the installation CD.

If your player comes with WMP10, then it's 100% compatible with WMP10 and this can be regarded as MTP version.
If your player comes with iriver plus1 or 2, then you have to use iriver plus software for organizing your music and this can be regarded as UMS version."

Alright, the firmware updater didnt recognize the device (no surprise, after all the trouble this thing has given me.)...

But I guess all the updating of medias player/ updating drivers, etc... the thing works now!  WooHoo.  What a Pain in the A$%.

Its strange, my work computer had WMP 11, which I had thought was the problem, so I uninstalled it, which put me at WMP 9.  Tried to go to 10 (which is whats on the installation CD)  Of course XP SP3, doesnt like version 10, so now I'm back at 11.  Lol.
