[Inactive] Slow, freezes, last attempt

I posted a thread a long time ago about my computer. I'm having similar issues only worse. It freezes (not responding) to almost every program after i load it, it usually lasts a minute or so before it's normal. Besides that every video or game I play lags and slows down. It's extremely choppy. It seems to get worse day by day. I'm at the point now where I can barely watch or play anything. Trying to get my schoolwork done is also an issue. A lot of my classes use a flash based programs, blogs, etc. and what should take a normal person a few seconds takes me 20 minutes to do anything with it. Here's my log.

As you have been helped here before, you know how we work so I am going to skip all that. My name is Hoov and I will be helping you with your problem.

1.Download and scan with CCleaner
When you get to the website, there is a dark grey box on the left side with two tabs along the top. Inside this Dark Grey box is a light grey box. Below that light grey box is where the download links are at. The pay amount is for paid support.
2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:

• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies if you want to keep those.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab: 

• Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.


We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:

• Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • DDS.scr
    
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  
• A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
• Notepad will open with the results.
• Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Are you having any other problems, or just the slowdown?

I really don't notice anything besides those main things. I've dealtl with rogue antivirus programs and all, redirects, etc. before. Whats going on now doesn't seem like virus's caused it. It almost feels like my machine is dying. Outdated programs or hardware, wrong updates, I really don't know. It's' just too darn slow for me to do anything at all. I love this freakin' computer, it's been a tank. I'd hate to lose it.

From the log you have 2GB of memory, you have very few errors in the event viewer, your harddrives have adequate space, and you don't seem to have conflicting security software.

Try this, I need you to reboot windows cleanly. To do that please go to the run command and type in msconfig . Once that starts, select selective startup, and then uncheck the load startup items. Now click on the services tab, and down near the bottom of the window, check the box that says Hide all Microsoft Services now go up and uncheck all the services still listed, make sure you scroll down the list if need to unselect all the non Microsoft services. Now click apply, then click OK and reboot the computer.

Now play with the computer a bit, don't go online with the computer this way, your protection is turned off.  Once you have decided how the computer is running, run msconfig and select normal startup then click apply and then OK and reboot. Then come back here and let me know how the computer ran that way.

A couple things I noticed. When I used that program to give you those two logs, I realized I never turned off my firewall, but did disable my antivirus.

Second, you said I have 2G. I thought my computer came with 2G and last year I had someone install an additional 2G. I may be mistaken with how much memory my computer came from the manufacturer.

As far as performance goes, it was somewhat of a change. Startup was much faster. Programs opened a little faster than they used to.

Right click on the taskbar and select Taskmanager. On the bottom of the window there are two numbers after the word commit charge. Can you tell me what those numbers are.

Taskmanager does show 4 GB installed, and your computer maxes out at 4GB, so you are set. DDS is just reporting it wrong. Do you mind helping figure out why if the author needs information from you?

Back to your problem, I need you to open Taskmanager again. Then start a program that has been giving you problems. Then watch the Taskmanager and let me know how many CPU cycles the program is using when it opens.

Those numbers are the memory, for the CPU you need to go to the process's tab and look under the CPU header. If you click on CPU it will sort the list according to the percentage of CPU being used. If you click it again it will sort them but in the other direction.

From that screenshot you should not be having any problems at all. When was the last time you ran a defragmentation routine on your harddrive? How about chkdsk?

Does the computer seem to run better when you first turn it on after a long time being turned off?

Defragmented not too long ago, maybe a week. Not sure what chkdsk is. Nothing changes when its off for a period of time either.

Could it be out of date hardware?
