found frozen screen error on reboot

I came home and my computer had a frozen screen -- nothing worked.  I held the ON button down and shut off.  When I rebooted it started to go through the boot sequence on the screen and then shut down abruptly.  Rebooted again and got an audible error sound that sounds like an ambulance (but softer) and did not boot up.  Tried several times, no response.  Question:  Did the CPU ghet cooked?  Is ti likely a power supply issue?  Is the motherboard dead?  It's a P4 over 5 yrs old.

Can you tell me the make and model of your computer? How many tones are there? Are there any pauses?

It's a local built P4 3.0mhz The sound is an oscillatiing low pitch sirene sound two tone de do de do de do over and over (like in a movie )  red data light is on next to power switch. No Boot log on screen. Just frozen on boot

No name "Future source" Mother board. Socket 478... Intel 865 chip.

Machine has been flaky in the past.

Do you know who the BIOS manufacturer is? If you don't know, unhook any hardware not needed to boot and try again, if you still have the same problem, try leaving only a single stick of memory in. If it still will not boot, try swapping memory. If you have more than two sticks, if it fails after trying two single sticks, try putting two in and swapping out memory until you are sure that is not it.

If it were a power supply issue, it would try booting and fail at a specific step. If it were the motherboard, chances are it would not even boot.

FYI, This is a different computer than the one previously worked with.  I'm her husband and logged in here about my computer.  You've been a tremendous help in the past and I was eager to ask for help here.

  I always treat new threads as a new computer unless the user tells me otherwise. As for being a different person, thanks for letting me know.
