OK, just ignore that one. I've a feeling one of the other two...probably both, will work just fine for you.

Ok, sorry if I confused you. Since you said your system couldn't access the net, I meant only for you to download all of those DDS files since it was possible if one didn't work, one of the others would have. So, to save you from having to go back and forth with it, I just thought it would have been easier on you to download them all at once and try each one, one at a time to see if ti worked. If so, then fine...but I didn't mean for you to run scans with all of them as each one does the same thing. So...that splains that.

Please uninstall all of these:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java(TM) 6 Update 14
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
McAfee Shredder
Norton Spyware Scan
Norton Spyware Scan provided by Yahoo!
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Viewpoint Media Player
VLC media player 1.1.11

Reboot when you finish. As for Spybot Search & Destroy, Java and VLC, we can reinstall those once the system is working properly and we're convinced it's clean.

I was able to restore access to the net by doing the folloing instructions from the Command Console
Quote
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. "netsh int ip reset reset.log"

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: "netsh winsock reset catalog"

I deleted the programs you identified, however, McAfee Shredder & Norton Spyware Scan did not display on the list of programs to be deleted/changed.

When removing Spybot - at it's conclusion it stated that there were still some elements to be removed manually.

System has been rebooted to post this post.

So, you seem to like tinkering on your own? Since there was nothing in the combofix script that would have affected the Internet connection to begin with, nor is there, or was there ever, any evidence of the zero access infection (for which, the "reset TCP/IP stack" can be used, then it's quite possible the issues with that system could be related to such tinkering. I dunno...since I dunno what all else you might have done to that thing.

Please don't go about on your own, doing anything else with the affected system while you are also engaged in this troubleshooting session.

For that matter, I don't know of any other "help" assistant you may encounter on these forums, that would also endure such things while they are working with you...and I do know many of them.

It just makes things more complicated.

All that said...please tell me how the system runs now and what other issues you are having. Thanks!

System seems to be running satisfactorily.  Applications seem to be starting more quickly than in the past.

I have gotten a couple of 'Explorer must Close' errors.

Based on your assertion that nothing we had done could have caused the loss of the link to the net I looked elsewhere for that individual problem.  There was no 'tinkering' done until after I got the zero access infection subsequent to the ComboFix run with the script you provided.  System had been communicating with the net immediately prior to turning off the DSL modem to run ComboFix and it was zero access when the modem was turned back on after completing ComboFix.

You are familiar with what "ZeroAccess" infection is?

Please explain for us, what you were doing when this "ZeroAccess" infection arrived. Certainly, nothing about the cfscript I constructed for you would cause a "ZeroAccess" rootkit infection. One (Most often) has to be spending time offering one's own hard disk up for grabs, with any of the variety of p2p file sharing programs.

Is this what you were doing?

You mentioned Zero Access - after running ComboFix I had zero access to my web links - 0 packets sent and zero packets received.  I have never participated in any File sharing programs - I don't download music or anything else.

As I stated my link was working - I turned off the DSL moden - Ran ComboFix - Turned on the DSL modem and was not able to transact any info packets on either the send or receive sides.

OK...I see now. You misunderstood my meaning of the term "ZeroAccess". It is a specific "type" of infection. You have none. Not now...not ever either, at least not by the logs you've produced.

When you lost internet access, or "connectivity", you took that, I suppose, to mean the same thing as "ZeroAccess". It's not.

Anyway, things are fine now? All is well with the universe?

Operationally things are fine.

I am not the type that is constantlly changing Desktop Wallpaper, ScreenSavers etc.  Sometime in the past year my Display Properties from right-clicking the Desktop has lost all it's tabs - Wallpaper, ScreenSaver, Display and all the other tabs are gone.

Ideas?

Download This Script File. (scroll down to the attachment and click the link) Double-click the .vbs file, ok any prompts. Reboot. Post back your results.

Script downloaded and Display Property tabs restored.

However, it takes into minutes to switch from tab to tab.

The real scripts download location was well hidden in a screen of 'free software' that I initially mistook for the real script and started loading ... rebooted out of that mess but I suspect some **** has been put on the system.

Upon rebooting I am not getting a screen the Microsoft Security Essentials needs to bet started - it is supposed to be starting itself.

Everything seems to be operating satisfactorily.

It is taking 35/45 seconds from right clicking the Desktop to get the Display Properties screen displayed.  Click on a tab within the screen takes another 35/45 seconds to change to that tab and if the tab has to be populated with additional data that also takes another 35/45 seconds.  You can fully navigate the Display Properties and all it's tabs - it just seem that this is inordinately slow.
