Is your network card part of the motherboard or is it a daughterboard in an expansion slot?

Go ahead and turn the computer off and install the card. If you don't know the safety procedures for working on the inside of a computer, let me know.

Once its installed, use it to connect the computer to your router / modem. Then start up the computer. Windows should see it and then install the new device and then you should be able to create a new network connection that will allow you to get online.

I installed the new card and I am still getting the same result. The new card was already listed under network connections. I also tried to create a new connection but that did not work.

It says connected, so try running ipconfig again and post the results.

Reboot the computer to safe mode with networking. Can you get online from here? Just check, don't do any browsing around, as your system is wide open. Once you know, reboot your computer normally and let me know.

Do you have a windows XP install disc (of the same type that you have installed on this computer)?

Is your computer updated to the time that you lost internet connection? What SP is the install CD? I am assuming you have access to another computer with a CD burner and a broadband internet connection? What version of windows is it running?
