[Resolved] adware problems?

Hello, im having trouble getting rid of a pop up software that scans the computer and says that drivers are out of date and needs to be fixed. this normally happens when the computer is booted up and if you click on the program it automatically loads up the internet and goes to a website that asks you to buy things. I have trend micro titanium and it doesn't seem to be picking anything up. I also ran malwarebytes and it picked up multiple trogen virus's and some other foul programs which were removed, since then scans with both antivirus softwares show nothing, but i still have the pop up problem, here is the results of highjackthis and the highjackthis said something about not being able to do something with C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. i dont understand what that is but i figured it might be needed information, thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello, welcome to SpywareHammer.

I go by Hoov, and I will be helping you with your problem. I must ask you to do a few things for me.

First, tell me everything that you have done, if anything, to try and fix this problem.Also tell me any other problems you are having, no matter how small or long you have been dealing with them.

Second, please only use 1 forum to help clear up your problem. Posting on more than 1 and following instructions from more than 1 forum will cause those helping you to pull out thier hair.

Third, follow my instructions - If you can't for some reason, or if you don't understand something, please tell me. If you deviate from my instructions, tell me, it may make a difference on where we go.

Fourth, Have faith. I will do all I can to get your computer working, and if I can't - someone else here will know something else to try.

Fifth, if we start this fix, I need you to stick with me until the end. Just because your computer is running better does not mean it is fixed.

Before we start trying to fix your computer, you need to make sure your data is backed up. Also let me know of any software you have running that encrypts your harddrive.

One last thing, I need you to tell me if this computer belongs to a school or to a company or orginization of some kind. If it does, please let me know. Also tell me if there is an IT department responsible for this computer.

Now onto trying to fix your computer.

Does the popup telling you about the outdated drives have a name? If it does can you tell me what it is, or can you get a screenshot of it?

Also can you open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log that shows what was removed and copy and paste it here?

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Hello Hoov, my name is chris and its very nice to meet you and thank you for the help. here is some information regarding this computer,
This computer is an at home laptop that isnt used for any business organization at all. This computer however does not belong to me, it belongs to my parents and i am attempting to help them clean up their system on their behalf because I've had help on these forums before and although my knowledge with computers is limited i have more experience working with computers more than they do.

about the driver thing thats infecting this computer:
The name that is desplayed for the file is Pereto Logic Driver cure, my parents say they have no idea were this software came from and i am including 2 screenshots of the window with this post

also on another note, the link that you provided me did not open correctly on this computer, (it would bring up a blank tab), this may be settings related but i thought i should let you know. i had to get the file from my main computer and transfer it open via flash drive. once again thanks for the help

The ParetoLogic DriverCure you should be able to go into the control panel and then to add / remove programs and there should be a listing for it, click on it and then click on uninstall. It is actually a legitimate program.

Also in the future, please paste the logs into your response instead of attaching them. Don't worry about the ones from this DDS scan, just in the future.

I am concerned about a few entries in the logs though.

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.

    • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    • If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
    • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    • A log pops up at the end of the run. This log file is located at C:\rkill.log. Please post this only if requested to by the person helping you. Otherwise you can close this log when you wish.
    • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.


    Now update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then run a quick scan with it. If it finds anything, repair it and then post the resulting log. If it finds nothing, just post that log.

    I need you to go to the administration tools in XP. They are in the Control Panel. Open the Admin tools, then open the event viewer. Over on the left hand side and click on System. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in system as the file name,  make sure file type EVT is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Over on the left hand side and click on Application. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in application as the file name,  make sure file type EVT is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Zip them both up into a single zip file, post them back here in your next reply as attachments.

    The event viewer logs show some problems. First is with realplayer. You need to either uninstall it, or reinstall it. Next is McAffee site advisor, as it does not appear to be installed, please run McAfee Removal Tool available here. One other problem is with Bonjour. Do your parents have an Apple device, or use any IM clients? Lastly is a problem with windows update. Can you connect your computer to AC power and then try manually running windows update. Let me know what happens.

    i am running the mcafee removal tool as you have requested at this time. My parents have Iphones that they use with the computer. and as far as the update for windows they say that they have been trying to install the most recent windows update for xp and it will not install properly, and as far as they know windows is missing something that is required for the install. im not entirely sure what that is. I will try to manually install the update tomorrow since its getting late and ill give you more information on it tomorrow after i get home from work

    When you try to run the update, make sure the computer is plugged into AC Power. Believe it or not, there appears to be some updates that require the computer to have AC power to install.

    i have tried to manually instal the update which is a security update and it did not do it. i took a screenshot, i have no idea why it wont update

    Im not actually sure, neither are my parents, is there a way i can find out? they said they might but if they do they dont use it
