Do you have access to another computer that is clean and has a CD burner or a thumbdrive that is at least 1GB in size?

Please  go here and there are instructions on how to create a thumbdrive with the Avira Rescue System, how to update it, how to run the scan with it (on the problem computer), and how to save the log.

You need these instructions, because this scan is actually done after having booted to the thumbdrive which runs a Distro of Linux, so it is a little different from windows.

OK. First take a look at the Avira Rescue System on a CD and see if that looks doable. If not then further down there are instructions for running a bitdefender online scan. It might work.

Please download the Avira Rescue system on the clean computer. Then go here and there are instructions on how to burn the CD, how to run the scan with it, and how to save the log.

You need these instructions, because this scan is actually done after having booted to the CD which runs a Distro of Linux, so it is a little different from windows.

Please perform a BitDefender Online Virus and Malware Scan here:
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
    * Click on I Agree.
    * An ActiveX warning box will appear, click on Install.
    * Under Select What You Want To Check For Viruses.
    * Please Check My Computer and Click Ok
    * Now Click On Click Here To Scan
    * Next, Click on Click here to export the scan report
    * Save it to your Desktop.
    * In your next reply, please include the BitDefender log and a fresh HijackThis log.

Did you look at the instructions for putting the Avira Rescue disc onto a CD? They are fairly straightforward and would be the next best way to go.

Hi Hoov
I finaly plucked up the courage and burnt the avira cd
I ran it, and it apparently cleaned about 500 infected items
I didn't catch the finish number, anyway I cant find the log
I was given the choice to save the log to "My computer"
Thats a bit vague, and I have looked for it but like I say I cant find it :(

No worries, I am glad it found things though. Was it as difficult as you thought it would be?

How is your computer running now?

Everything seems ok now Hoov, I can now load all the posts in this thread
I can also access security website now, which I couldnt before
And the task manager and regedit are back, ohh and my firewall doesnt keep turning off
I just wish I knew where I cought it from :)
Well I guess this is goodbye Hoov, thank you very much for all your help and assistance
Your a gentalman, and its very much appreciated.

Don't jump for joy to soon. First, I would like you to run your computer for a day to make sure it is really fixed and cleaned. Reboot the computer several times during that day.

If all is well when the day is done, we can do some cleanup and I will give you some other info that may help out.
