[InActive K]Windows keeps shutting down with errror message

Well thank goodness I have firefox downloaded because after uninstalling IE 8 I can no longer get a function IE window to open.

The computer did restart after the deletion of IE 8 but whatever is there now opens, looks like a IE window but is not active, cannot go to any favorites, if I type an address in the browser nothing happens, the window just sits there . . .

What happened? No biggie that it isn't working but would like to get it working if possible.

That is very starnge for sure, usually when IE 8 is removed the system rolls back to IE 7, OK lets try re-installing IE 8 and see if it responds any better.

Download IE8 installer from HERE Save it to your Desktop.

Boot into Safe Mode, re-boot and continuously tap the F8 Key until you see the windows advanced menu, from the options select > Safe Mode.

When the system is stable run the IE8 Installer. When complete boot into normal windows, check for updates. Install any that are available, reboot and check if IE is OK...

Thanks Kevin for all your help. I am still having issues but am starting to think they are related to facebook for some reason

Did you re-install IE 8, did that make any difference? Do you want to re-open the thread

I did reinstall and it hasn't helped much. I seem to notice that IE closes more often when navigating away from facebook . . .

We can reopen the thread if you think there is something else that might help.

Do you have anything related to FaceBook installed, toolbars plugins, or addons..

No. I just have a Google toolbar

OK, re-run OTL as follows:

Download OTL to your desktop.

Double click the icon to start the tool. (Note: If you are running on Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
•   Please check the box next to "LOP check" and “Purtiy check”
•   Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
•   When the scan is complete, two text files will be created on your Desktop.
•   OTL.Txt <- this one will be opened
•   Extras.txt [color-green]<- this one will be minimized[/color]
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of OTL.Txt and the Extras.txt in your next reply.

Do you have two security program suites running on your system?

Constant Guard Protection Suite and Norton Security Suite

Both of them come with Comcast Xfinity. Not sure I can have one without the other.

You are quite right they come as a package so should work ok together, I`m just not seeing anything definite to attribute the IE problem to..

OK, run this please:

The process is very simple and easy to follow. One stipulation that must be followed. The CD must be created on a known clean PC, from the same PC print off the instruction, they really are very easy to follow. All you need is a blank writable CD, everything else is included in the tutorial. Obviously the PC must have a burner.

All instructions are available here Avira Rescue System Read through the instructions a couple of times to familiarize yourself with them, create the CD and print off the instruction. It will be to your advantage to have the  instructions available during the process.

When complete post back and let me know if anything was found..
