If you follow the procedure above, Symantec should not run. But if it does, there is a link in the combofix instructions on how to disable various AntiVirus scanners. Here is the link. Try disabling the scanner fully then follow the msconfig instructions and then running combofix then.

Just so I'm clear . . . do I attempt to disable the antivirus program, or anti-malware scanners?

The Antivirus scanners for sure. If you can also disable the AntiMalware scanners , that would help out as well.

I'm sorry I haven't posted here lately. I've been distracted. Also, ComboFix seems to have uninstalled itself when I fired it up after a week or so of not using it.
