I got it done.  I did seem to loose the internet connection, but used the instructions you gave me.  I can not get connected through Google Chrome, haven't tried IE yet.  Got through with Firefox.  As the CD was doing the Finalizing installation I got some errors.  It said  Windows Update

An error  occurred loading "C:\windows\system32\inetcomm.dll".  The file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.  OK  I hit OK to continue.

An error occurred loading "C:\Program Files\outlook express\msoe.dll"

Windows Media Player

The File wmploc.dll has a version number of 8.0.0.4477 where 11.0.5721.5145 was expected.  Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.  Do you want to install the planer from Microsoft web site?  Yes  No  I hit yes to continue.

When starting for the first time it said  Adobe Arm. exe- Ordinal not found
The ordinal 281 could not be located in the dynamic link library msi.dll.  OK  hit ok to continue.

Also I have an icon symbol at the bottom right in the toolbar that when I put the curser over it it says This version of Windows is no longer secure.  Don't know what to do about that.  and how do I get the updates now.

When I try to connect with IE, or Google Chrome I get a message that reads The procedure entry point setDllDirectoryW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.  OK  Clicked that to continue.

To be expected. You used an older disc to repair a newer version of windows with. Try running windows update. Let me know how it goes.

When I go to start, to all programs, to Windows update then click on Windows update nothing happens.  Is there another way to get to the updates.  Also when I started my computer tonight...I got a message from last night...the same one from Adobe Arm.exe.

Try installing SP3. You downloaded it once before, but if you need it again, it is here. Once its downloaded, install it. After you have done rebooting after the SP3 install, try running windows update again. Let me know how that goes.

Once I downloaded the Service Pack 3, and then after Extracting Files I got an error that read, Service Pack 3 error...Setup has detected that the version of the Service Pack installed on your system is lower than what is necessary to apply this hotfix.  At minium, you must have Service Pack 1 installed.  OK  I clicked ok to continue.  I rebooted checked Window Updates again nothing happened.  I then tried to download one of the older versions of service pack 3 that we loaded a few weeks ago, and got the same thing again.  Still nothing on the Windows Update.

Here is the service pack you need to install first, then install SP3.

Sorry, that should take care of it.

Got another error...

Service Pack 1 Set up Error

The following error occurred while Service Pack 1 setup attempted to download the Service Pack 1 files from the Internet.  The server did not respond.   Retry  Cancel.  I clicked Retry 2x.  then read Connecting to http://xpSP1.microsoft.com/isapi/pstream3.dll/xp/SP1.USA.1106a.

Would not connect to complete.  I clicked Cancel.

I can't open IE.  It does nothing when I click on it except flash on and off.  I could probably go there through Firefox.  That's the only browser I have right now that works.

I tried to go there using Firefox.  That didn't work.  I need to use IE.  Right now IE won't work.
