I can make the folders in my documents?  What would you like me to do?

That won't work. Do you see my computer or computer? If you do click on the that and expand it, you should be able to see the C: drive then.

It just took me straight to my documents.  I got it done.  What I did was go through My Computer to C: made new files in C: that way...copied and pasted the files from the windows XP CD to the folder XP disc.  So far it seems to be working.  Ready for the next step.

Download SP3 to the SP3 folder you made. Clicking the link should start your download.

Once that is downloaded and stored in the SP3 folder I need you to go to the start button then to all programs then accessories then command prompt.  Type in cd C:\SP3 and hit enter. Now type in windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe -x:C:\SP3. Now if you look in the SP3 there should be a whole lot of files and folders. If there is you can delete the windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe file.

Now type into the command prompt cd C:\SP3\i386\update and hit enter. Then type into into it update.exe /integrate:C:\XP Disc

Let me know what message you get when that is done.

If that is successful, then we can proceed with the next steps.

I thought I downloaded to SP3 folder.  (I hit the save button) When I went to the command prompt after the first command I typed in is said the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.  After the second command it stated The system cannon find the path specified.  After the 3rd command stated Is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.  When I went to the sp3 folder there was only that file that you wanted me to remove there, nothing else.  I put it back for now.

Once it is saved to the sp3 folder do you want me to double click on it to download it?  I did, but then hit cancel thinking you didn't want me to do that.

Once it is saved to the folder don't double click on the file. Just proceed with the instructions above.

I misread, and double clicked on the file when you stated not to.  So sorry.  How do I correct it now?

I don't see it anywhere in the control panel add/remove programs to remove it.

I typed in exactly what you wanted and I got a message back stating...The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

When you say to look in SP3 does that mean in the folder that I created in the C: Drive?  I typed in windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe-x:C:\SP3

Yes. Is the folder name SP3 in upper case or lower case? If it is lower case, or has a space, you will need to make that change in the folder name at the end.

If that still does not work, do you have a zip utility?

It is in lower case sp3.  I tried to do the same only used sp3 at the end.  I got the same result.

What do you mean zip utility?  I don't know if I have it or not.

WinZip, PowerArchiver, 7-zip, freezip, powerzip, there are hundreds of them out there. If you don't have one, please download PowerArchiver (it is the one I use so I know it better) and install it. Let me know when you have it and I will tell you how to unzip the file instead of using the command line that we have tried so far.
