[Inactive] No Internet connectivity
« on: March 25, 2012, 02:41:08 PM »
Hi my name is Ellen and I am having issues with getting online as well.  This is a direct result of viruses on a Toshiba laptop.  I downloaded on a clean laptop that could get on the internet TDSSkiller, Kaspersky virus cleaner and the Kaspersky virus package, malware bytes and microsoft security removal kit and winsock repair utility.  I have found what i believe is all the viruses and ran the winsock utility but still nothing.  It shows that I am connected whether wirelessly or via LAN but does not appear to be transmitting.  When i run diagnose connection via IE it tells me "error attempting to validate winsock base providers 2.

We are running XP and IE.  I have tried using Chrome and Safari but still nothing.

Hello, welcome to SpywareHammer.

I go by Hoov, and I will be helping you with your problem.  Just so that you know I split your post off the other thread and moved it to the appropriate board. We can proceed from here.

I must ask you to do a few things for me.

First, tell me everything that you have done, if anything, to try and fix this problem. Also tell me any other problems you are having, no matter how small or long you have been dealing with them.

Second, please only use 1 forum to help clear up your problem. Posting on more than 1 and following instructions from more than 1 forum will cause those helping you to pull out thier hair.

Third, follow my instructions - If you can't for some reason, or if you don't understand something, please tell me. If you deviate from my instructions, tell me, it may make a difference on where we go.

Fourth, Have faith. I will do all I can to get your computer working, and if I can't - someone else here will know something else to try.

Fifth, if we start this fix, I need you to stick with me until the end. Just because your computer is running better does not mean it is fixed.

Before we start trying to fix your computer, you need to make sure your data is backed up. Also let me know of any software you have running that encrypts your harddrive.

One last thing, I need you to tell me if this computer belongs to a school or to a company or orginization of some kind. If it does, please let me know. Also tell me if there is an IT department responsible for this computer.

Now onto trying to fix your computer.

Can you post any logs from the scanners that you ran that show what was removed? If not, tell me generally what was removed if you remember.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Please copy and paste both logs into your next response. You may need more than one response.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Open a command prompt (all programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and type in
Ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt and then hit enter. Then type in ipconfig.txt to open notepad with the log. Copy it and paste it in to your next response.

If I am helping you and you don't hear from me for 24Hrs, send me a PM Please!

The DDS link does not work. When I click it, I get an empty page. When I google DDS by subs, I get nothing.

I have ran in normal startup;
tdsskiler
antinmind
avg_free_stb_2012_1913_cnet
drav
digia_cure
Hijackthis
kateskiller
kk
klwk
malwarebytes anti-malware
mbam-rules
mba-setup-1/60.1.1.1000
pmaxkiller
rafr
rectordecrytorp
salitykiller
microsoft security removal tool - I had to change this to a different name in order to run
virutkiller
WinASO_RO_v4.7.6
windows-kb890830-v4.6
winsockfix
xoristdecryptor

I ran all of this in normal startup and found infections on all of them. And then I ran microsoft security and winsockfix in safe mode. I deleted 2 registry keys because the virus had hijacked it. And now the CD/DVD is working. I ran netsh. I diagnosed connection problem through IE. I have tried running internet through google chrome, safari and IE, without success. I've tried system restore to 3-4 different dates, and was unable. I am running windows xp. I am running IE 8.0.6001.18702. I am downloading everything to a USB drive.

Here's my hijack report. I could not run hijack in safe mode. I was not allowed;

That link should have started a download, can you check to see if it did? What browser are you using?  Do you have problems downloading anything else?
