lpksetup log files continuously writting to temp file

An anomoly is occuring and I do not know what is going on nor how to stop it.  :h

"lpksetup-20120320-095027-0.log" is the
[Language Pack Setup - DATE - log number - 0]

Several of these appear a day in  52 KB / 1 KB sequences in my temp folder and I have noticed that the last few days my system hard drive does not spin down when idle.

Before I addressed this, I noted that the hundreds of log files dated back to 12/20/11.

Notes:

I use Firefox and have cookies set to do not accept and have exceptions for blocks and accept cookies - my current cookies only consist of known sites and services.
I have had and always have running the following security packages:
   MB-Pro with real time malicious site block (updated every 7 days - MBP ran monthly)
   Spybot Tea-Timer (S&D updated and ran monthly)
   Avast (free version - always on - full scan periodically)
   Windows firewall

Steps taken:

I downloaded latest version of CCleaner and ran it to clear temp and cache files as windows disk cleanup wouldn't clean 400+ temp files. CCleaner cleaned massive data but couldn't clean the last two days of the 'lpksetup' logs. System ran better from just the maintenance alone.
Ran Windows defrag.
Ran MB-Pro. 0 infections
Ran SB S&D. 0 infections
Ran AVAST full scan. 0 infections.

>>> Results <<<
System runs smoother just from CCleaner and the defrag.
System hard drive still accessing and does not spin down.
'lpksetup' logs still being created.

General info: System (purchased March 2010): Vista-64, ASUS G50V-T6, 8gb ram user installed (CORSAIR 8GB - 2 x 4GB), 1st drive 320gb/7200rpm - partitioned 145gb system (c:) / 145gb data (d:) as shipped, 2nd drive 500gb/7200rpm data (f:) user installed.
I am an end user. When it comes to what makes a computer work, I am a novice. I know how to optimize the environment and slim things down on the surface, but when it comes to system keys, logs and what's running in the background, I'm lost.

Disable TeaTimer...run ccleaner again and uncheck the option for Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours

Regarding TeaTimer:

Uncheck 'Resident Protection' or Exit 'Spybot-S&D Resident'?

Unchecking then rechecking 'Resident Protection' states a confirmation warning. Once i run CCleaner again, am I confident to restart TeaTimer?

Uncheck the resident TeaTimer...in fact, in Windows Vista you don't even need it as Windows defender does essentially the same thing. Those two will wrestle with each other. To prevent the log files from occurring to begin with, I would install the Vista service pack. I suspect, you have none.

It's the language pack removal scheduled service. They (those temp files) should be deleted automatically on a reboot I think. You should also be able to disable this service if you wish but you would need to keep an eye on the temp folder, or run CCleaner often...which should be done anyway.

Go to Administrative tools in the Control Panel...then Computer management.
From there, go to: TaskScheduler ---> TaskSchedulerLibrary ---> Microsoft ---> Windows ---> MUI.

Now doubleclick in the UPPER central window pane; then click the "Triggers" tab, and then the "Edit" button in the lower part of that tab. Finally, in the Edit dialog, uncheck the "Enabled" checkbox.

I think though, if you had the Service pack installed, this wouldn't be an issue.

Herein, I show more of my ignorance.

Where do I check to see if i have what service pack installed? I think I did have windows update add that last year sometime if I recall.

As far as enabling Defender, do I need to do a full uninstall of TeaTimer or just disable it?

Further down the rabbit hole, Defender. Where do i check for it's installation or operation.

I will run CCleaner tonight then see if the logs continue to post.

If you DO have service pack 2 installed, then I suspect a problem. What I'd like you to do now is to go to Windows update and scan. Install EVERYTHING that is presented, including "other" updates, not just critical and important. Once you've done that, you MUST reboot the system. Check to see if you are still getting the temp files...and if so, DO NOT RUN CCLEANER at that point. Simply reboot the system FIRST, then check the temp folder again. If you still have them, let me know. Good luck!

By the way, Windows Defender runs by default. You'll find it listed on your start menu near the Windows Update entry.

greetings.

from the previous request, i ran CCleaner with '48 hours' unchecked on the 20th. i saw no more logs being written, however, a 'master' file was still present. I checked for what updates were available. I have auto update checked so it has pretty much installed everything over the last 2 years with the exception of the IR diver that i never installed (it's been available since i bought the laptop) as i never use the IR (see image).

Yesterday, I had to go out to a spontaneous field acquisition right after i turned on my laptop getting to work. W got back toolate for me to do any work on this as i needed to process information. the hard drive seemed to spin down like it previously has done, and ishut it down and packed away my laptop for the commute home.

on the flip side, i either have food poisoning or a virus ... anyway, i am working from home today and just turned on my computer to check emails and the like.

went first to the temp folder ... the 'log' files are being written again with 'master' files (see image).
