You have an infected system disk controller. In order to fix that without having to restore the system to factory condition, and wipe all data, I would need to use the system installation DVD. If you don't have it, you may need to backup what you want to keep, and review what options you have for restoring the system to it's factory condition.

Where could I get a system installation DVD? I bought the laptop with everything installed and I don't recall getting any discs?

Check with the manufacturer. Computers that come with pre-installed operating systems will have a hidden partition where it's stored. At boot time, a combination of key presses is most often the formula for activating the recovery.
