Only in that you got infected probably in a video driver. That can be a hard one to dig out or even diagnose because the Video driver affects everything. I think going thru a malware removal session is the best way to proceed.

Is there any merit in replacing the video card? (if that's even a feasible option) Or is that way off the mark? Recall i'm quick to jump to nuking options.  :a

That's not to say I'm unwilling to take steps to remove Malware. This kind of stuff scares me so I want the most direct route to "safety".

Thanks again!

No. I have yet to see an infection that actually gets into the firmware. So the video card is fine. We just need to get rid of it, it might be in the drivers, it might be someplace else. It is theoretically possible it is in the hardware, but as far as I know no one has proven that it exists in the wild (internet).

As for your suggestion being way off, don't worry. We all started in the exact same place. I made some fairly wild assumptions when I first started, but the folks that taught me had patience with me, I would be repaying them poorly if I did not have the same patience with you.

i'm starting the "What do i do first" steps. I can't see that there's a place to temporarily disable Malwarebytes. Should I uninstall it or is that one fine to stay on. I have MSE disable.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware doesn't need to be disabled, but you figured that out. For now, at least until we are 100% sure there is no infection, assume this thread is closed. Post on the other thread.
