[Inactive]think I still have an issue....
« on: May 03, 2012, 07:06:10 AM »
I did a full wipe of my computer, got all of my stuff back up and running, and now I think I have something again. When online, sometimes I'll be scrolling down a thread and it will start freezing and bouncing down the page slowly. Also, I'll have to click "back" twice really quickly to get it to actually go back to the page before. Also, the page will randomly refresh, even after it's fully loaded. It doesn't actually refresh, but where the "stop X" is, it will go to the arrow going in a circle, meaning something is loading, just randomly. Another thing I noticed is if I have something in the USB port when I turn the laptop on, it freezes on boot up.

Ideas?

Questions:
1) What operating system is it
2) Describe step by step what you did when you performed the reformat and reinstall
3) What antivirus product you are using
4) How old is that system

As to the page refresh issue, I should inform you that ALL web pages refresh intermittently as does your own system's desktop and browser. And as to the usb port, what "something" is in it?

1: Win XP Media edition
2: used the CD that came with the laptop. I had a thread here were I had a vundo virus and was walked through multiple scans etc and we got it out. Then the laptop was still having issues, so I did the full wipe and started from scratch. It was a pain in the ***. Some stuff didn't install (drivers) so I had to find and update them mostly manually. I finally got the majority of my programs and everything installed.
3: Nortons
4: 4 years or so

I know the websites refresh, but this is different. When I click the back arrow and nothing happens, so I need to do a quick double click to go back. I know something's not right.

Kevinf80 is one of our experts so I have no doubt whatsoever that his instructions were spot on. When I saw his ID there from the thread you linked above, I just stopped reading....

So, I might just suggest a couple maintenance steps that may bring about some positive change for you. One item of note is that upon  a fresh installation of Windows, it is going to cause the disk to become quite fragmented. You should run the disk defragmentation utility to see what per cent shows up. One other suggestion is to run your browser with no addons to see if it makes the difference.

yeah, Kevicf80 did an amazing job walking me through everything. My laptop ran perfectly for a while. I think I got something new, rather than "still have an issue". Should have phrased that title differently.

I'll do the defrag today. How do I check and turn off add ons? using opera, would that be "extensions"? If so, I don't have any installed.

thanks!

Alright then, let's start taking a fresh look at things. We'll need a new DDS scan:
Disable the active protection component of your antivirus and antispyware programs by following the directions that apply Here. Next, please download the free utility DDS from any of these locations...Here, Here...or Here.
Note - Some infections may prevent certain executable files from running on your computer. If one of these download locations results in a failed run of the utility, please try the next location until you find one that will work on your machine
Double click dds.scr to run the tool
  • When it completes, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Next, please install WinPatrol Free version Here...and install it using default settings (change nothing during the installation). When the installation completes, double-click the WinPatrol icon in your system tray to open the user interface. Click on the "Options" tab. Click on the Hijack Log button. Wait for a notepad file to open containing the logged system analysis information and save it to your destktop. You can name the log "WinPatrol Hijack" log.

Please remember to include the following logs in your next reply.
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • WinPatrol Hijack Log
