Sound and speed problems. Please help.

Nvidia is your graphics card so don't delete those drivers. ;)

And I wouldn't uncheck NvCpl, nwiz, or NvMcTray on the Startup tab in msconfig. Unchecking those will disable many of the features of the nVidia graphics card and bliock any custom settings that may have been made for personal screen preferences (eg, performance, quality, refresh rate, brightness, contrast etc).

SoundMax is typically on-board audio builit into the motherboard. The most common add-in PCI sound cards are from Creative Labs such as their Soundblaster, Audigy, Xtreme, etc. So do you recognize any of those names?  Can you check the original component spec sheet that came with the PC to see what audio card you have?

What is the name/number on your motherboard...?

Back again.

I left Nvidia alone and rechecked those three things in the startup. I don't recognize any of those names and I was just informed the computer was built not bought. Good communication, huh? So there's no label and no component spec sheet. I assuming it at least has a motherboard.    The sound did work at one point and just stopped without any reason that I know of. I'm not positive I can identify the motherboard, but I'm about to crack it open and look inside.

Now that I'm thinking about it, is a sound card a physical piece of hardware inside the tower that could have worked loose? Maybe the reason it can't find a sound card is because of something like a loose wire?

Ok. I looked inside and just copied down a few possibilities and where I found them.

Dual DDR2 800 : large letters on the main circuit board
VO 4110 Pb 32 : on a small sticker with a barcode beneath it
A13G+ V3.0 : the largest letters printed vartically on the large main circuitboard
PCI-E Pro : beneath one of the empty plugs near the bottom/back of the tower.

Nothing that will help with those...Look in the Belarc report you ran and see if it gives the information on the board manufacturer....

Another way to check what sound you have (hopefully)....Go to 'start'>>'All Programs'>>'Accessories'>>Click 'System Tools' then 'System Information'...Click on the plus sign to expand 'Components' and then click 'Sound'.....What information does it give in the pane on the right...?

The Belarc "Main Board" section says:

When I went through System Information and clicked on "Sound Device" the window to the right was entirely blank. I didn't see sound listed anywhere else.

I don't know who made the computer and I don't see anything on the machine to indicate it. No logos or names. No sticker with make/model. I looked in My Computer >> Properties >> General, but I didn't see anything to indicate make or model. Under computer it says

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
3500+
2.21 GHz, 960 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Just wondering.  If you right click on My Computer>Manage>Right click on Computer Management (Local)-at the top>Properties>General tab, does it display the Computer Make and Model?

-Another option is to run a Pit Test from PC Pitstop.

The results should tell you the Make/Model & the sound,video and game controllers.  Also, if the correct driver is installed.

Yeah, it looks like this motherboard uses on-board RealTek audio.  If the link in a_cup's post doesn't work for you (I see a bunch of garbage at that link..??), there's a direct link to the RealTek audio driver here:
