1. Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
   2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
   3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
   4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
   5. Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.
   6. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
   7. When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
   8. Close Internet Explorer.

Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

Test out IE and see if it still uses an excessive number of cycles in Task Manager. Let me know how it goes.

Try changing your homepage to something else. Then see if IE8 is still slow. Let me know how it goes.

Changed homepage & computer seems to be working ok. Is there anything that can be done to keep this page from slowing the computer down?

Did you get a chance to review the runscanner file that I sent to you? Do I need to make any changes based on that file?

Before I can tell you how to make sure it does not happen again I need to know something. Do you really use that homepage for anything other than a stopping off point to get to your e-mail?

I use this page for news, financial information & email. I could probably change to a different page for the same information. Just curious why this page causes so much problem?

Chances are it is just clogging your temporary files with a lot of temporary files. Go to the control panel and then to internet options. Then to the settings button in the browsing history section. If you have a broadband connection you should be able to set the "Check for newer versions" section to everytime. That should turn down the number of items that the browser stores locally. The browser cache is really meant for slower connections anyway. It keeps the browser from having to redownload the same elements every time you visit the same page.

Alternately you can run Ccleaner every couple days or once a week. That will keep your browser cache cleaned out.

Do you have any other problems, questions or concerns?

Are there any changes that need to be made based on the runscanner.run file that I sent to you, that will improve start-up performance? I can send you a new file if necessary.

Sorry, I thought I had already posted this,

I want you to fix some autostart items by using the RUN file that I have attached with items marked for deletion:
  • Please download and extract the attached Zip file called runscannerbdunn0.zip to your Runscanner folder
  • Open Runscanner in Expert Mode by double-clicking runscanner.exe, checking "Expert" and clicking OK.
  • Click the "Open Run File" button
  • Browse to "runscannerbdunn0.run" (the run file you just unzipped) located in the Runscaner folder, and click Open
  • The screen will refresh after the run file loads
  • Click the "Item Fixer" button
  • The items selected to be fixed will be displayed and checked for removal
  • Click "Fix Selected items"
  • Confirm that you want to fix these items by clicking OK in the confirmation dialog box.
  • You will receive a "Done fixing items" message when removal is complete.
  • Reboot
  • Launch Runscanner again, save another .RUN File called runscannerbdunn02.run
  • Zip up runscannerbdunn02.run and attach it to your next reply please.

Did that improve anything?

If not look in your system tray, including the hidden icons if any, and see if there are any programs that you don't need to startup right away. If there is , open the program and go into the menu's and find where the preferences are and see if there is a way to keep them from starting with windows.

If there are programs that you don't want, but cannot figure out how to stop from starting with windows, let me know what they are.
